Reading Thoughtfully Lesson 9 Thoughtfully means STUDY pg 79 the Chapter 5 Leper
Jesus Heals Ten Men With Leprosy 11 Now on his way to Jerusalem, Jesus traveled along the border between Samaria and Galilee. 12 As he was going into a village, ten men who had leprosy met him. They stood at a distance
13 and called out in a loud voice, “Jesus, Master, have pity on us!” And as they went, they were cleansed. 15 One of them, when he saw he was healed, came back, praising God in a loud voice. 16 He threw himself at Jesus’ feet and thanked him— and he was a Samaritan.
17 Jesus asked, “Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine? 18 Has no one returned to give praise to God except this foreigner?” 19 Then he said to him, “Rise and go; your faith has made you well.”
Let me just tell you a little bit about leprosy
Is God pleased with us when we do exactly what He tells us to do? Pleased -- Satisfied; Delighted or Thrilled
What did the lepers ask Jesus to do? They stood at a distance 13 and shouted, “Jesus, Master, have pity/mercy on us!” a strong feeling of sadness or sympathy for someone or something a blessing that is an act of divine favor or compassion
What was the underlying desire behind their request? In other words what did they really want?
real How much real reverence or respect to you think they had for Jesus?
What did Jesus tell the lepers to do? 14 When he saw them, he said, “Go, show yourselves to the priests.”
Why did Jesus express dismay about the other nine (seemingly obedient) lepers?
Why do you think the Samaritan broke ranks and returned?
What exactly is obedience? To Come into Compliance What is it that we learn from this text?
