2 Nice idea – but does it work? Being somewhat sceptical, I put a couple of one-hour delivery sites through their paces. First stop, BagsOfTime.com for lunch. I had to buy several items to satisfy the minimum of £ 10 order charge. The bill came to £ with no extra delivery charge. To my surprise, the sandwiches and the drinks I had ordered were delivered to my desk about 50 minutes later. I progressed to Urbanfetch.com for pudding. There is no minimum order threshold, so I took advantage of the company’s generosity and purchased a box of biscuits for £ Again, free delivery. The biscuits also arrived within the hour. Then Koobuycity.com. Fortunately for my waistline, the website was suffering server problems. The Daily Telegraph, 12 October 2001 M.Košir

5 What was life like in the years B. C. (= Before Computer)? Thermometers the temperature. Mechanical clocks or the position of the sun the time. People themselves by talking to each other more. Fathers radio sets on and off. Blackboards all the levels of education. Teachers simple and complicated mathematical operations themselves. They also sound and animation to their lectures. Intelligent pupils their own problems. Parents of their children’s grades, shop owners of their supplies and bosses of their personnel and inventories. M.Košir

6 What was life like in the years B. C. (= Before Computer)? Thermometers controlled the temperature. Mechanical clocks or the position of the sun told the time. People entertained themselves by talking to each other more. Fathers switched radio sets on and off. Blackboards aided all the levels of education. Teachers taught simple and complicated mathematical operations themselves. They also added sound and animation to their lectures. Intelligent pupils solved their own problems. Parents kept track of their children’s grades, shop owners of their supplies and bosses of their personnel and inventories. M.Košir

7 “So we threw away our drawing boards and got computers.”
