2 I will need a firm commitment of those attending no later than Tuesday, Feb. 13 th. Jim Jarboe, Jr. is the son of long time Neptune Beach Chief of Police James Jarboe. He was literally raised in the Neptune Beach City Hall where he lived with his family. He has BS and MS degrees from The University of Georgia. His first job was in regional planning in Georgia. He has over 30 years of government experience including stints as a City Manager in Neptune Beach, Atlantic Beach, and Alachua. He also had a position advising the governor of Puerto Rico on accessing embargoed Federal Funds. He is now the City Manager of Neptune Beach, and spoke to us about the many government related events in Neptune Beach including plans for rebuilding the Hopkins Creek Bridge, the Wal-Mart Issue, and other interesting topics. Our Westside friends always do a great job. The food is plentiful, and they promise a great evening of fellowship and a truly inspirational message from our Gov'. This will be the only visit by Governor Yorston and his First Lady to our Division, and I am counting on each club to have a huge turnout. Please encourage spouse attendance also! I know they will enjoy Gov Phil. He's a polished speaker and a genuine individual. OFFICIAL GOVERNOR’S VISIT & 2 ND DIVISION COUNCIL MEETING Lt Governor Rande Le Fevre Deborah Verges, Pres of the NE Florida Boys and Girl Club was presented a check for $6,200, which was 60% of the net from the Golf Tournament. The remaining 40% will be used for other Children's Charities sponsored by our club. Burt Van Wagner made this presentation, having obtained the largest sponsor donation of $2,000 from Dr Daniel J Schellhase. Max Booke presented a check to the Boys and Girls Club in the amount $750, which he obtained as a donation from Wal-Mart. The club started the renovation project about a year ago to modernize the 20,000- square-foot center at 820 Seagate Ave., across the street from Fletcher High School. The plan and the cost grew from $170,000 to $250,000 and is now about 60 percent finished, Verges said. Debbie Verges, president of the Boys & Girls Club of Northeast Florida, summarized the accomplishments in a luncheon Tuesday and recognized the donors. They include The Players Championship, Ponte Vedra Rotary Club, Jacksonville Beach, Jacksonville Beach Kiwanis Club, Oceanside Rotary, Exchange Club, WCI Communities, a national builder that's constructing the Costa Verano condos in South Jacksonville Beach, and Jacksonville City Councilman Art Graham, who represents the Beaches.
