6  An appositive is a word or group of words that identifies or tells more about the noun it follows. Example :  John, my best friend, had a video about the Titanic.  My best friend - tells more about John. APPOSITIVES

7  Good Writers use appositives to combine two choppy sentences into one longer sentence. APPOSITIVES IN WRITING

8  Commas are used to set off most appositives from the rest of the sentence.  Commas are used to set off appositives that are not essential to the meaning of the sentence.  These non essential clauses are called nonrestrictive modifiers.  Examples: 1.Mr. Frank, a meteorologist, told us about different clouds. 2. I read a book about blizzards, fierce snowstorms. APPOSITIVES AND COMMAS
