BSNL offers you a host of phone pulse services, converting your old basic telephone to a sophisticated tool which can be used for a variety of applications. Value-added services (VAS) are those services that offer differentiation or value to the bearer service and the ability for telecom operators to charge a premium price. For a telecom operator’s perspective VAS is very important as it is revenue driver. All the telecom service users want to have many other services over and above the basic service. VAS plays a very important role when the telecom market moves towards saturation level

3-Call transfer : Call forwarding (call transfer) in telephony, is a feature on some telephone networks which let an incoming call to a called party to be redirected to a third party. Call forwarding typically can redirect incoming calls to any other domestic telephone number, but the owner of the forwarded line must pay any long distance charges for forwarded calls redirected outside that number's local calling area. Useful for very mobile persons who may not want to miss incoming calls. Using this facility Calls can be forwarded to another telephone number designated by you.

To activat e : Dial 114- NF(tel ephon e numb er where call to be transf erred) To revert to norma l : Dial 115 Some of the easier way to invoke or remov e call forwar ding from your hands et, To activate : Dial 114-NF(telephone number where call to be transferred) To revert to normal : Dial 115 Some of the easier way to invoke or remove call forwarding from your handset: **21*telephone no.#To invoke. #21#To cancel all call diversion **67* To cancel call diversion on busy

Typically these are two or three digits, and are most commonly known as being emergency telephone numbers like 9-9-9, and You may be calling a few people very frequently. It is possible to program these numbers as abbreviated codes of 1 or 2 digits. A maximum of 20 numbers can be programmed for abbreviated dialing. It is ideal for STD/ISD. 4-Abbreviated dialing : Abbreviation dialing is the use of a short telephone numbers to reach public services.

Step 1 Select your short code Choose a short code for the number you dial frequently e.g. '15' for the number xxxxxx. (if it's std no. std code+xxxxxx) Step 2 Register short code for a telephone no. On your telephone dial 110 then the short code followed by the subscriber's number i.e. dial xxxxxx. Step 3 To dial the number using abbreviated code Dial 111 then the short code to dial the number i.e dial this will dial xxxxxx. To cancel or re-allot the same number Dial yyyyyy (new tel. no) this will store code 15 for new number yyyyyy overwriting the earlier no. xxxxxx. Procedure:

5 - Calling Line Identification Presentation (CLIP):

6-Caller ID (caller identification, CID), or calling line identification presentation (CLIP): Caller ID is a telephone service, available in analog and digital phone systems and most voiceover Internet Protocol (VoIP) applications, that transmits a caller's number to the called party's telephone equipment during the ringing signal, or when the call is being set up but before the call is answered. Where available, caller ID can also provide a name associated with the calling telephone number. Caller ID may be used to track down or limit the impact of telemarketers, prank calls, and other annoyances. However, it can also impede communication by enabling users to become evasive. The concept behind caller ID is the value of informed consent; however, it also poses problems for personal privacy.

Subscriber trunk dialing (STD) is a facility that enables users to make trunk(long distance) calls without the assistance of an operator. The facility is prevalent in Indian telecom companies, including BSNL. If you want to prevent people from making long distance calls on your BSNL phone, you should consider locking STD. In this way, someone can make long distance calls on your phone only after entering a secret code. For 100% protection against improper use, you can lock your telephone electronically. Here, you only know the secret code. You can lock/allow Local, STD or ISD calls in many way viz. all calls allowed, only local calls allowed, only STD & Local calls allowed, all outgoing calls barred etc.

Register Secret Code Suppose you want to make 5555 your secret code. Follow this procedure to register this: Dial then wait for the acceptance tone then disconnect. Your code is registered. Change secret code Suppose you want to change current code 5555 to 4444 then Dial then wait for the acceptance tone then disconnect. Your new code(4444) is registered. Bar/Open Facilities using Secret Code(example 5555) Bar STD/ISD calls Dial then wait for the acceptance tone then disconnect. Now STD/ISD calls will be barred. Open STD/ISD calls Dial then wait for the acceptance tone then disconnect. Now STD/ISD calls can be made. Open STD calls only Dial then wait for the acceptance tone then disconnect. Now STD calls can be made. Bar STD/ISD/manual trunk calls Dial then wait for the acceptance tone then disconnect. Now STD/ISD/manual trunk calls will be barred. (It will also bar calls to 95 level). Bar local calls Dial then wait for the acceptance tone then disconnect. Now local calls will be barred. (Applicable only if STD Facility is available). Open local calls onlyDial or 2 then wait for the acceptance tone then disconnect. Now Local calls can be made.

8- Call Conferencing : A conference call is a telephone call in which the calling party wishes to have more than one called party listens in to the audio portion of the call. The conference calls may be designed to allow the called party to participate during the call, or the call may be set up so that the called party merely listens into the call and cannot speak. It is sometimes called ATC (Audio Tele-Conference ).

Conference call can be designed so that the calling party calls the other participants and adds them to the call; however, participants are usually able to call into the conference call themselves by dialing a telephone number that connects to a "conference bridge" (a specialized type of equipment that links telephone lines). Companies commonly use a specialized service provider who maintains the conference bridge, or who provides the phone numbers and PIN codes that participants dial to access the meeting or conference call.

An ISDN subscriber can establish two simultaneous independent calls (except when the terminal equipment is such that it occupies two 'B' channels for one call itself like in video conferencing etc.) on existing pair of wires of the telephone line (Basic rate ISDN) where as only one call is possible at present on the analog line/telephone connection. The two simultaneous calls in ISDN can be of any type like speech, data, image etc. ISDN also supports a whole new set of additional facilities, called Supplementary Services. Digital Telephone -with a facility to identify the calling subscriber number and Other facilities. Data Transmission at 64 Kbps with ISDN controller card

Subscribers can have blazing fast Internet surfing and download speeds in 64 and 128 Kbps ISDN dial up connections. The uniform all. India access no. for ISDN access is '172225'. ISDN dial up access:

BROADBAND Connection : The term broadband refer s to the wide bandwidth characteristics of a transmission medium and its ability to transport multiple signals and traffic types simultaneously. The medium can be coax, optical fiber, twisted pair or wireless Broadband service is based on DSL technology (on the same copper cable that is used for connecting telephone). This provides high speed internet connectivity.

Broadband refers to a communication bandwidth of at least 256 Kbit/s.. Each channel is 6 MHz wide and it uses an extensive range of frequencies to effortlessly relay and receive data between networks.. The wider (or broader) the bandwidth of a channel, the greater the information-carrying capacity, given the same channel quality. Intelligent Network Services An intelligent network is a service independent telecommunication network. That is intelligence is taken out of switches and placed in computers. This provides the network operator the means to provide services efficiently. Some Services under IN services are –  Virtual private network (Access code 1801)  Universal Access Number service (Access Code: 1860/1868)  Televoting services (VOT) (Access code : 1803,1861)  Personalized Ring Back Tone service:  MultiPlay

Virtual private network (Access code 1801) The VPN service allows public network operators to provide private network features, e.g. Private Numbering Plan (PNP) and Screening capabilities, using the public network infrastructure. The Service Subscriber can directly manage. and administer his VPN via the Customer Control feature. VPN is typically used to interconnect geographically distributed PBXs. This service enables the subscribers to form an imaginary network within a real network on existing telephone lines.

6 Universal Access Number service (Access Code: 1860/1868) This service allows a subscriber to have a universal number (UAN). All the incoming calls for this number shall be routed to different destinations depending upon the geographical location of the caller, the time, the day, or the date on which the calls are made. Company/ Corporate can assign single access number to their offices located at different places. The service is an ideal business promotion tool for business communities who want the people to call them without any hassle Hospitals, Educational institutes, NGO, Law firms Medium and small firms

Televoting services (VOT) (Access code : 1803,1861) Televoting is unique service used in collecting public opinion. A user who wishes to vote, can dial the specific voting number to register his vote of choice. Televoting is possible from STD barred phones also. Televoting numbers are 13 digit number : ABCD-XY (no charge to voter, service subscriber to pay) Personalized Ring Back Tone service: This service is just like the caller tune service in mobile phones. The landline subscribers can also set the ring back tone to be heard by the calling customer as per his choice. MultiPlay Multiplay service allows the customer to have data, video and voice service on the same line. The video service can be IPTV (broadcast) and video on demand. Present this service is started only in few cities like Pune, Banglore, Kolkata etc.
