The ultimate goal of this class is not to focus on the devil/demons but to set captives free.
“1.The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners,
2.to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn,
3.and provide for those who grieve in Zion—to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness ,a planting of the Lord for the display of his splendor.”-Isaiah 61:1-3
So why is inner healing and deliverance important?
Because Jesus commissioned us in the gospels to cast out demons, heal the sick and to proclaim the kingdom (preach the gospel)-This commissioning derived out of the love that Jesus has for the captives. –Matthew 10:8-9, Luke 9:1-2, Mark 6:12-13

The House = Person
The Strongman = Demons/ The Devil
Garbage = The legal rights the enemy has to oppress or possess. Ex. hurts, sins, injuries, abuses etc

Hebrews 4:12 NIV-”For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”
Hebrews 4:12 shows us how the word of God is the only thing that can impact our spirit, soul and body. Without the authority of the word( which the authority that Jesus carries) the spirit soul and body can’t truly experience transformation.

BODY
Body: is the house in which the other two (the spirit and soul) reside, and provides the means whereby the two express themselves. Sight, hearing, smell, touch, taste are all part of our five senses -Romans 12:1-2, 1 Corinthians 6:20
“Sóma” is the greek word (transliteration) for body. It is defined as body, flesh; the body of the Church.
The human body became susceptible to the decay of sin after the fall. Our once immortal body now became mortal because of sin and the curse- Genesis 3:1-24. Because of the fall the Devil can now inflict our flesh (body) whenever he has rights( typically sometimes this sins hinge on un-repented sin) .

Our fallen body/flesh is not as disciplined as the spirit of God that lives on the side of us, that is why we most constantly submit our bodies to Christ- Matthew 26:41, Roman 12:1
Its important to note that not every suffering in our flesh is as the result of direct demonic influence brought on by our sinful actions

SOUL
The Soul is the centralized computer system of every human-being. Is the decision-making part of a man. This is basically where our personalities are housed. The soul is also the part of humans that enables us to live practically in this world (Cognitive capabilities- language, math skills, social skills, etc). This is an immaterial part of humans but equally as real as our body-Genesis 2:7, Proverbs 4:23, 1 Corinthians 2:14, Acts 23:1
Demons can oppress the souls of humans.-1 Samuel 16:14-23 (In this case the Lord allowed demons to oppress King Saul because of his disobedience)
“Psuché” is the greek word (transliteration) for body. It is defined as “(a)the vital breath, breath of life, (b) the human soul, (c) the soul as the seat of affections and will, (d) the self, (e) a human person, an individual” (Greek, n.d)

SOUL Conti….
The Soul houses our mind (The mind is the intellect, capacity to know  Psalms 139:14, Proverbs 19:2a)
The Soul houses our will (capacity to exercise choice, make decisions, and push one towards self-preservation, self-control Acts 3:23, Luke 22:42),
The Soul houses our emotions (capacity to feel, to experience Psalms 42:6a, Song of Solomon 1:7a, Matthew 26:38a, Psalms 35:9),
The Soul houses our desires (not surprising but, souls may also lust/long for things  Deuteronomy 12:20b, Psalms 81:12, Revelations 18:14a, Psalms 37:4)

SPIRIT
Spirit: is the Divine (God) Nature of man designed to be in regular communication with God- Numbers 16:22, Hebrews 4:12, Psalms 139:13-14
“Pneuma” is the greek word (transliteration) for Spirit. It is defined as spirit, wind, Spirit
Just like the soul, the spirit is also an immaterial aspect of human beings. Some times scriptures uses the word soul and spirit interchangeably but its important to note that also different things.
Spirit man is either dead or alive in Christ.
-Romans 8:10-11, Ephesians 2:5
Demons can possess the spirit-man of an unbeliever/non-follower of Christ-Mark 5: 1-20

12. LESSON 1: INNER HEALING & DELIVERANCE: Myth-busters
According to Kraft (1992): Myth 9: Only those with “Special Gifting” can cast out demons (p.49)
Through this class/course, I will address different myths people believe about deliverance ministry. In this particular case this myth is wrong at many levels. First deliverance is not a spiritual gift. None of the spiritual gifts listed in the new testament have deliverance itemized anywhere -(Romans 12:5-9, Ephesians 4:11-12, 1 Corinthians 12: 7-10, 28)
Drawing from the ministry template that Jesus sets for all his disciples in Luke 9 and 10, its safe to assume that Jesus expects us to be able to cast out demons because he has bestowed upon us this authority. So, I believe that no matter what our gifting and calling might be, God has called us to proclaim the gospel, heal the sick and cast out devils (when directed by him). Now, its important to note that there might be some that are more engage in this ministry than other believers simply because their environment or calling.

Write down in your Journal 5 areas where you have struggled in your soul /body in the past or presently
Write down in your Journal 5 areas where you have consistently seen members of your family struggled in their souls / bodies in the past or presently
This exercise will help you to begin to create awareness in areas were there might be demonic oppression in your life or in the lives of others around you. I plead with you that pray that “God will open your spiritual blinders to see these areas”. Instructors Prayer: Lord I pray that every participants eyes will be opened to the reality of some of the struggles that might be going on in and around them and Lord them see how bigger you are than those things.
