2 Quick Write: Description of a Person  Pick an important person in your life. Describe him/her (physical looks, voice, mannerisms, personality, etc.). Use the 5 senses as well as figurative language (similes, metaphors, hyperbole, etc.).

3 Objective, Agenda, & HW  Objective:  Students will define and give examples of three Greek roots.  Students will compose a draft of their memoir.  Agenda:  Quick Write  Greek Roots 1-3 Quiz  Greek Roots 4-6  Draft Memoir  Read Your Book  Homework:  Complete Study Sync assignment by Monday 9/23.  Read your memoir book and put a sticky note next to at least 3 descriptive passages by Monday 9/23.

4 Greek Roots 1-3 Quiz  Complete your quiz for the first 3 Greek roots.  You may no t use your composition notebook.

7 Greek Root 6: hypo Root: hypo Meaning: under, below Visual Representation:Word List: Hypocrite Hypoglycemia Hypochondria Hypotenuse Hypothermia Hypothesis

8 Writing Time  You are going to spend most of the rest of class drafting your memoir, with the exception of about 20 minutes of reading time. Draft as much as you can.  You need to make sure you develop the plot.  Develop the conflict in the rising action and climax.  Begin to resolve the conflict in the falling action.

9 Reading Time  Begin reading the memoir (book) that was checked out to you yesterday.  As you read, use a sticky note to mark at least 3 places in the text where the author uses a vivid description.  On the sticky note, write “5 senses” if the author uses the 5 senses in the description.  Or, write “figurative language” if the author uses simile, metaphor, hyperbole, personification, etc.  You will share the passages you marked with your sticky notes with your literature circle group on Monday.
