1 International Leadership Challenge Project Video Roadmaps

2 Purpose Develop a series of vignettes where current international students communicate information about their countries and cultures – and relate their transition strategies to others Serve as a roadmap to assist new international students in their academic and social experiences Enlighten others as to the asset of international students to our communities

3 Strategy Propose this idea to international friends and class members Motivate students to participate in Video Roadmaps Coordinate video taping with Barker Productions Maintain interest among students and try to promote a synergy of participation Seek support and additional student participants from ISS

4 Project Implementation Timeline

5 Successes Fundraising efforts resulted in monies needed for producing Video Roadmaps Recruited eight international students from diverse countries: El Salvador, New Zealand, India, South Africa, China, Hungary, Canada, and China. Plan to have twelve students by May 14 th Participants had very positive comments about the effects that they felt their videos would have on the target audiences

6 Obstacles/Challenges Working with International Student Services (ISS) Working with students’ schedules in terms of filming with Barker Productions Devising an incentive for students to record videos

7 Outcomes Meaningful videos that are realistic representations of international students perceptions and provide a roadmap for fellow students’ transitions A sustainable project that ISS is very enthusiastic about promoting and hosting on a permanent basis

8 Conclusion Video Roadmaps indeed fulfills the ISS mission statement: “…to facilitate the international student’s transition to life in the United States and at Texas A&M, to promote interactions between the United States and international populations, and to provide services necessary to meet the special needs of international students….”
