8 why? - Problems and Challenges Navigation - There are thousands of e-journals and hundreds of databases Library branding Point to alternatives – open archives and open access journals Integrating Open Access resources in Library Services Enhancing availability and visibility of scientific literature Make life easier for end users Make life easier for librarians (end user training etc) – Collection management in a “package” world Enhance usage of electronic material

9 L U N D U N I V E R S I T Y Finding information Library branding is very important – users often believe that full-text e-journals are free on the Internet! – ”If it is not on the web, it does not exist” We want to brand our services and promote Open Access resources

10 L U N D U N I V E R S I T Y Organising end user access to information resources The goals: – Integration of all services – Development of personalized services – Branding of library services Principles: – Single sign on – automatic authentification – one login/password to all resources – Remote access

11 L U N D U N I V E R S I T Y ELIN: Electronic Library Information Navigator What is it? all electronic resources accessible through a single user interface one single system to support and train users a range of simple to use administrative tools, all accessible via Web pages that allow for full administration of the system

12 L U N D U N I V E R S I T Y ELIN: Electronic Library Information Navigator What is it? In end users can - get an overview of all online resources recommended by the library - cross search among different types of documents from different providers using one single user-friendly interface - have direct access to the full text - browse table-of-contents - order documents not available in full text - download bibliographic data in other formats, e.g. for EndNote or Reference Manager. - use the alert system for automatically notifications about new documents matching saved queries - use the alert system for automatically notifications about new issues of “favorite” journals
