Welcome to Jeopardy! Please raise your hand to answer. An answer must be in the form of a question. Each correct answer is worth five extra credit points. The maximum daily score is 25 points. Each incorrect answer costs five extra credit points. All negative scores will be cancelled at the end of the game (today).

A hammer hitting a nail provides and example of this. What is an interaction? According to Newton’s third law, every interaction has these two parts. What is action and reaction? If the action is Earth pulling down on a falling rock, this is the reaction. What is the rock pulling up on the Earth? Action and reaction always refer to these. What are different bodies?

This federal law allows states to create pollution-trading programs. What is the Clean Air Act? These forces act and react within a system of two or more parts. What are internal forces? This law of physics resolves an apparent paradox: a student can move forward by using feet to push back on the ground. What is Newton’s third law?

This online book seller lets you read actual text from a book before you buy. What is Amazon.com? Whenever one object exerts a force on a second object, the second object exerts an equal but opposite force on the first object. What is Newton’s third law? The reason action and reaction forces never cancel. What is action on different objects?

Although action and reaction are equal in magnitude, their effects depend on these. What are the masses of the objects? Every interaction (gravitational, electrical, magnetic, aerodynamic, etc.) involves both of these. What are action and reaction? Among sciences, this one is most male- dominated. What is physics?

This university is in hot water because of its president’s comments on women’s aptitude for math and science. What is Harvard? Newton’s second law states that acceleration is proportional to this quantity. What is net force? A synonym for the force of gravity. What is weight?

Newton realized force is not a thing in itself, but rather a result of this. What is interaction between two objects? The reason a knockout blow to a piece of paper does not exert a large force. What is the small mass of the paper (which, when multiplied by acceleration, gives a small force)? Force is the quantitative measure of this qualitative experience. What is a push or a pull?

Location of the world’s largest windmill farm. What is California? Another name for the upward reaction force on helicopters. What is lift? This is the reaction when you push down on (jump from) the ground. The ground pushes up on you? In 2003, this many people went hungry. What is 843 million?

The most abundant form of life in the sea, after bacteria. What are foraminifera? These predators were reintroduced in Yellowstone National Park (WY) 10 years ago.. What are wolves? This average American reads this many pounds of paper per year. What is 300 pounds?

World oil production may peak by this year. What is 2010? Worldwide, one out of four persons are exposed this unhealthy levels of this. What is air pollution? This many golden eagles, red tailed hawks, and burrowing owls are killed annually by windmills on Altamont Pass. What is 880-1330? The number of windmills on Altamont Pass. What is 5400?

Although fossil records indicate these six foot long birds have existed for several million years, there are only about 500 left. What are Whooping Cranes? The gender of 82% of Ph.D. recipients in 2003. What is male? This university became only the fourth to have a library with 10 million or more books.. What is U.C. Berkeley?

Of science Ph.D. recipients, the gender more successful in college teaching and research. What is neither? Of recent chemistry Ph.D. recipients, the majority gender. What is female? A famous, living, female mathematician. Who is Professor Karen Uhlenbeck? Approximate number of stars in Milky Way. What is about half a trillion?

This government gave a license to the scientist whose team cloned Dolly the sheep so e can clone therapeutic human embryos. What is Britain? Probably the worst fat in the American diet. What is partially hydrogenated oil? Approximate incidence of autism. What is about 1 in 166? Debut date for new SAT. What is March 12, 2005?

Thank you for playing Jeopardy!
