I believe that there is a specific order to setting your goals, and achieving them in this order will give you the highest level of success in life. 1. Education 2. Career 3. Financial 4. Family 5. Attitude 6. Physical 7. Pleasure 8. Public Service
Education is the most fundamental goal you can set for yourself. The level of education you acquire, and the effort and work you put into your education are the foundations for the rest of your life. These lead to the career you will receive in the future, and your level of financial stability, which like it or not, will effect your level of pleasure later in life.
Now that you have gained your education, it is time to decide what you will direct the rest of your life towards. It is important that the goals you aim for in your career path will satisfy you for decades to come. The goals you set for the level and achievements you will look for in your career will determine how financially stable you will be, but it is important to remember that meeting your pleasure goals may conflict with this, so finding a balance is imperative to having a happy and fulfilled life.
Now that you have gained a position in your new career, financial goals should be the next step in securing your future. Having solid investments and retirement funds are important in securing you later in life, and the earlier you set these goals in motion, the happier you will be later in life. Paying off the necessities in life as early as possible may cause more stress earlier in life, but will avoid most problems later in life, when you need them the least.
Now that you have set these first three goals in motion, you have hopefully began a comfortable and secure life after a decade of hard work. This is the perfect time to bring the family into the equation (ideally), when you have the financial stability to grow your family in a comfortable environment. There are always unforeseen costs and bumps in the road while raising a family, and being able to overcome any obstacle will make achieving your family goals much more successful.
Even though having a good attitude has been important so far through the ride, your goals toward attitude can be concentrated on more at this point in your life. Now that you have a solid grip on life, you can take a step back and analyze how far you have come and where you want to be in the future. If anything is holding you back, or if anything in your life is upsetting you, now is the time to tackle the problem.
Physical goals are goals that will help you maintain a healthy, long, and happy life. Setting these goals for yourself and your family will keep your family strong and healthy, and will allow you to maintain a strong and effective attitude towards work, which will also benefit you financially. Even though other goals have been more important in the past, these should be goals that are at least slightly focused on throughout your entire life.
Again, your goals thus far have given you a secure, fulfilling, comfortable life. You have hopefully achieved most of what you have expected out of life. Now is the time to focus on yourself and happiness. Is there anything else you wanted to achieve out of life? Is there any other goals you could meet or things you could do to make your life even more pleasurable? This is the time to do it!
You have done everything in your power to make your life as great as you possibly can. Led yourself and your family through every obstacle, and achieved every thing that could make you happy. If your level of security and financial stability has excelled what you need to survive, maybe giving back to the community is the next step for you. Everyone has a different level of “contribution” to the community, and meeting whatever goals you set for yourself here could give you an even higher sense of satisfaction in life.
