2  Gifted - Defined by State of Georgia  ALP - Advanced Learning Program  AC - Advanced Content Curriculum  AP – Advanced Placement (High School)

3  Cognitive  > 96th percentile on composite or appropriate component score of a standardized mental ability test  Achievement  > 90th percentile on Total Battery, Total Reading, or Total Math score of a standardized achievement test  Creativity  > 90th percentile on standardized creativity scale  > 90th percentile on standardized creativity test  Motivation  > 90th percentile on standardized motivation scale

4  ALL Cobb County students are screened for Gifted Services in 3rd, 5th, and 8th grades  All screening is based on the most recent ITBS scores  No sixth grade student will be re-tested  Students new to Cobb County who do not have current scores may submit a referral

5  All Identified gifted students will be served in at least one class  Additional classes may be added based on student’s demonstrated strengths on a on nationally normed achievement test (ITBS)  Students not previously identified as gifted may qualify for advanced content classes based on our current matrix.

The local eligibility committee will place 6 th grade students in AC classes according to the following:  Classes must have seats available after all gifted-identified students are placed.  Determination will depend on the student’s total score in any area compared with other students being considered for placement in the same grade and content area.

7  All students held to same standards of motivation and achievement  Must maintain grade average of 80 or above

8  Teachers have gifted in-field certification  Students are identified as gifted according to state rule

9  Files are delivered to Lovinggood from elementary schools  Students in good standing will enter as same  Students are served from the first day of school to the last  Students on probation for 1st time at end of quarter start fresh  Students removed from program in elementary may apply for re-admission

10  Elementary  Pull-out model  Unit-based  Interdisciplinary Enrichment  Middle School  Core classes  Advanced Content  GPS based differentiated instruction  Designed to prepare for honors and AP classes

11  AC means advanced content.  Courses are based on standards of regular course  Not more work  Appropriate depth and challenge for advanced students  Students who are challenged don’t always make A’s  Differentiation may involve  Content  Process  Product
