© Roke Manor Research Limited 2003 The problem Treatment typically involves several cycles of chemo/radio therapy with intervening periods to allow the patient’s immune system to recover. During these periods, the patient is strongly at risk from viral, fungal or bacterial infection. Therefore… It would be better for the patient to spend this period in the comfort of their own home. But… The need to continually monitor patients and to take rapid action in the case of septicaemic shock is vital. So, how can current ‘tele’ technology help?
© Roke Manor Research Limited 2003 Requirements Needs to monitor temperature and pulse rate. Reliable, with backup mechanisms. Protects privacy of patient. Preferably ambulatory. Preferably (very) cheap. Preferably autonomous, with minimal (no) extra load on clinicians.
