“Walking with Jesus”

Are You… …Walking With Jesus?

“Walking with Jesus” A Significant Step

Who Was He?

Who Did He Become?

Who Did He Become? He Emptied Himself

He Surrendered His Rights
Who Did He Become? He Surrendered His Rights

The right to wealth 2nd Corinthians 8:9 – “For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that ye through His poverty might be rich.”

The right to honor and esteem
Isaiah 53:3 – “He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed Him not.”

The right to purity 2nd Corinthians 5:21 – “For He (God) hath made Him (Christ) to be sin for us (you and I), who (Christ) knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him.”

The right to be served Mark 10:45 – “For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.”

John 1:4(a)- “In Him was life;…”
The right to live John 1:4(a)- “In Him was life;…” Matthew 27:50 – “ Jesus, when He had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost.”

Who Does He Want To Be In Me?

Romans 12:1 – “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.”

“Walking with Jesus” A Selfless Step

“Betrayal”

He Was Well Respected. He was known for serving.
He was known for benevolence. He was known for being busy. He shined outwardly.

He Was Well Disguised. He was motivated by self interest..
He was a cold, calculated, deceiver. He was a replica of his father, the devil.

GREED John 12:2-6 – “There they made Him a supper; and Martha served: but Lazarus was one of them that sat at the table with Him. Then took Mary a pound of ointment of spikenard, very costly, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped His feet with her hair: and the house was filled with the odour of the ointment. Then saith one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, which should betray him, Why was not this ointment sold for three hundred pence, and given to the poor? This he said, not that he cared for the poor; but because he was a thief, and had the bag, and bare what was put therein.”

POSITION He was thinking revolution. He was thinking power.
He was thinking authority. He was thinking “money making machine” He was thinking world domination!

How could they not have known?
Self and Pride

He saw the blind eyes opened.
He witnessed the Glory . He saw 5000 fed …twice. He saw the blind eyes opened. He saw the dead raised.

He wanted the Glory . Ezekiel 28:15 - “Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee.”

He wanted the Glory . Isaiah 48:11 – “For mine own sake, even for mine own sake, will I do it: for how should my name be polluted? and I will not give my glory unto another.”

“Walking with Jesus” A Suffering Step

Mark 14:41- “It is Enough” He Had To Be Resolved

Luke 22:44 – “And being in an agony He prayed more earnestly: and His sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground.”

2 Corinthians 5:21 – “For He hath made Him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him.” Psalms 22:6 – “But I am a worm, and no man; a reproach of men, and despised of the people.”

John 3:14-15 – “And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: That whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have eternal life.”

Mark 8:34 – “And when He had called the people unto Him with His disciples also, He said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.”

“Walking with Jesus” A Strong Step

The DEMAND of a PRISONER

The DISPLAY of the FLESH

The Demonstration of Amazing Grace
Luke 22: “And one of them smote the servant of the high priest, and cut off his right ear. And Jesus answered and said, Suffer ye thus far. And He touched his ear, and healed him.”

“Walking with Jesus” A Shining Step

Do you know this Man?

Indict: To make formal accusation on the basis of positive legal evidence.

Indictment # 1 This is a FALSE ARREST

Luke 22:52-53 – “Then Jesus said unto the chief priests, and captains of the temple, and the elders, which were come to Him, Be ye come out, as against a thief, with swords and staves? When I was daily with you in the temple, ye stretched forth no hands against Me: but this is your hour, and the power of darkness.”

The REASON for the NIGHT arrest.

John 15:19-20 – “If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you. Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted Me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept My saying, they will keep yours also.”

The TIMING of the NIGHT arrest.

The reason they COULDN’T take Him before…
John 7:30 – “Then they sought to take Him: but no man laid hands on Him, because His hour was not yet come.” John 8:20 – “These words spake Jesus in the treasury, as He taught in the temple: and no man laid hands on Him; for His hour was not yet come.”

… Is the same reason they COULD take Him now!
Luke 22:53 – “When I was daily with you in the temple, ye stretched forth no hands against me: but this is your hour, and the power of darkness.”

The ABSURDITY of the NIGHT arrest.

John 18:12 – “Then the band and the captain and officers of the Jews took Jesus, and bound Him”

“I AM he”

The Demonstration of Amazing Grace

John 18:12 – “Then the band and the captain and officers of the Jews took Jesus, and bound Him”

Abraham and Isaac Genesis 22:9 – “And they came to the place which God had told him of; and Abraham built an altar there, and laid the wood in order, and bound Isaac his son, and laid him on the altar upon the wood.”

Messianic Psalms Psalms 118:22-27 – “The stone which the builders refused is become the head stone of the corner. This is the LORD'S doing; it is marvellous in our eyes. This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it. Save now, I beseech thee, O LORD: O LORD, I beseech thee, send now prosperity. Blessed be he that cometh in the name of the LORD: we have blessed you out of the house of the LORD. God is the LORD, which hath shewed us light: bind the sacrifice with cords, even unto the horns of the altar.”

Jesus before Annas John 18:13 – “And led Him away to Annas first; for he was father in law to Caiaphas, which was the high priest that same year.”

Romans 3:9-19 – “What then. are we better than they
Romans 3:9-19 – “What then? are we better than they? No, in no wise: for we have before proved both Jews and Gentiles, that they are all under sin; As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one. Their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips: Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness: Their feet are swift to shed blood: Destruction and misery are in their ways: And the way of peace have they not known: There is no fear of God before their eyes. Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.”

Facts about Annas

Facts about Annas According to Jewish law, the priesthood was a lifetime position, but this law had been altered by Rome. Annas had been the high priest for 16 years. However, Annas’ power and longevity in office had worried Rome and they encouraged him to step down.

Facts about Annas Even after he relinquished his position, he still retained powerful influence. 5 of his sons, 1 grandson, and now his son in law Caiphas had held the office.

Facts about Annas To have been allowed to retain such power, Annas would have to have brought great tax revenues to Rome as well as maintained a choke hold on the people to prevent any political uprisings against Rome.

“The shops of Annas”

“The shops of Annas” The people would come to exchange their money for temple money at 1/5 its value.

The people would be given very little for their spotless lambs.
“The shops of Annas” The people would be given very little for their spotless lambs.

“The shops of Annas” The people would be sold weak and sickly temple lambs at 5 times the usual price.

“The shops of Annas” As many as 250,000 sacrifices were purchased on a given Passover. (Josephus)

The poor were exploited, charged 1 gold coin for no lamb.
“The shops of Annas” Leviticus 5:7 – “And if he be not able to bring a lamb, then he shall bring for his trespass, which he hath committed, two turtledoves, or two young pigeons, unto the LORD; one for a sin offering, and the other for a burnt offering.” The poor were exploited, charged 1 gold coin for no lamb.

And they cried out again, Crucify Him. Then Pilate said unto them, Why, what evil hath He done? And they cried out the more exceedingly, Crucify Him. And so Pilate, willing to content the people, released Barabbas unto them, and delivered Jesus, when he had scourged Him, to be crucified.”

Psalms 27:12 – “Deliver me not over unto the will of mine enemies: for false witnesses are risen up against me, and such as breathe out cruelty.”

Psalms 35:11-17 – “False witnesses did rise up; they laid to my charge things that I knew not. They rewarded me evil for good to the spoiling of my soul. But as for me, when they were sick, my clothing was sackcloth: I humbled my soul with fasting; and my prayer returned into mine own bosom. I behaved myself as though he had been my friend or brother: I bowed down heavily, as one that mourneth for his mother. But in mine adversity they rejoiced, and gathered themselves together: yea, the abjects gathered themselves together against me, and I knew it not; they did tear me, and ceased not: With hypocritical mockers in feasts, they gnashed upon me with their teeth. Lord, how long wilt thou look on? rescue my soul from their destructions, my darling from the lions.
