CWUIQ Presented by Justin Thomason March 3, 2005

Introduction  Central Washington University Professors struggle adapting to the various aptitude levels of the incoming freshmen.  The Institutional Research Department of CWU is in charge of obtaining information about aptitude levels of the incoming class  Institutional Research uses the information to prepare the Professors at the University

Who What & Why? What is CWUIQ? CWUIQ is an online tool used by the Institutional Research Department to obtain information about the aptitude levels of the incoming freshmen. Why should we have CWUIQ? To provide CWU’s professors with reliable information about the intelligence levels of the incoming freshmen Who is going to be using CWUIQ? Incoming Freshmen Class (Users) Institutional Research (Administrator)

Benefits of CWUIQ  Freshmen Will help them better understand class lectures  CWU Professors Will have an idea of how to structure their lectures with reference to the aptitude levels of the freshmen  Institutional Research Eliminate old paper surveys Provide a more efficient system for collecting data

Major Components of CWUIQ 1.Log On / Log Off 2.User Administration 3.I.Q. Test 4.Database 5.Results

1. Log On / Log Off  Log In An Administrator or a User must “Log In” before accessing any information on CWUIQ Log In page prompts for username and password  Log Off User or Administrator must be able to log off at any time

2. User Administration Two types of user profiles and their capabilities Users Take the I.Q. Test Interpret their individual results Administrator Create users View all results

3. I.Q. Test Below are the requirements for the I.Q. Test Only users can take the I.Q. Test Users can only take the test once Contains 27 total questions Test consists of 3 pages (9 questions/page) To view an example of the entire I.Q. Test online, visit Note: Only 27 questions are used in CWUIQ, for a list of these questions, visit the CS 351 Project 2 webpage

I.Q. Test (cont.) Scoring Each question answered correctly earns 4 points An incorrect answer earns 0 points If all questions are answered incorrectly, the minimum I.Q. score is 42 The maximum I.Q. is 150 [ (27 questions * 4 pts/question) + 42 minimum I.Q.] Users can leave an answer blank, which will be counted as incorrect

4. Database The database consists of three different tables: User Table Results Table Questions Table More Information about the database can be found on the CS351 Project2 webpage

Database (cont.) questionTable *QuestionID: number Answer: text Explanation: text resultsTable *userName: text Q1: text Q2: text … Q27: text IQscore: number userTable *userName: text password: text role: text completed: Yes/No

User Table Consists of four different fields Username Password Profile Type Test Completed

Results Table The Results Table consists of multiple fields Username The user’s answers to each question Overall Score

Question Table The Questions Table consists of Questions Answers Explanations

5. Results  Users View Results Compare Results  Administrators Individual Results View Summary Results will be extracted from the database and calculated for the Users and the Administrator

View Results (User) The user’s answer A Boolean statement signaling “Correct” or “Incorrect” An explanation of answer (*only if answered incorrectly*) The “View Results” page for the user displays e ach question vertically down the page along with:

View Results (cont.) EXAMPLE Question 1: Please enter the missing figure: 3, 5, 8, 13, 21,... Your Answer: 34 Correct! Question2: Please enter the missing figure: 3, 4, 8, 17, 33,... Your Answer: 50 Incorrect! The right answer is: 58. The starting numeral is 3 in position 1. The following numeral is 3 + (1 x 1) Example: 8 + (3 x 3) = 17

Compare Results (User) Boolean statement signaling “Correct” or “Incorrect” Percentage of how many times the question was answered correctly out of all the tests combined The “Compare Results” page for the user displays e ach question vertically down the page along with:

Compare Results (cont.) EXAMPLE Question 1: Please enter the missing figure: 3, 5, 8, 13, 21,... You answered: Correct! 83% of freshmen have answered this question correctly

Individual Results (Admin) The “Individual Results” page contains a table for the Administrator that displays the username, and their overall score thomasju2 smithjo25 jamestr16 Username Score

View Summary (Admin) A vertical display of each question showing percentage of how many times the question was answered correctly out of all the tests combined The “View Summary” page for the Administrator displays an overall AVERAGE (%) at the top of the page, along with:

View Summary (Admin) Example: Summary of Results Average of tests combined: 85% Percent of questions answered correctly Question 1: 83% Question 2: 94% … Question 27: 90%

Conclusion Requirements Specification Document (PDF) Database Layout (Visio) Use Case Diagram (Visio) Use Case Scenarios (Word) Layout of the 27 Questions (Word) PowerPoint Presentation Are there any questions? The following resources can be found on the CS 351 Project 2 webpage:
