10 Encourage Good Study Habits for your Student! 1. To be successful students should study 1-2 hours each night. Even if a “homework” isn’t given, spend about 20 minutes every night reviewing. 2.Provide a distraction-free and well-lit place for your student to study. Do NOT allow them to study in front of the TV or with their phone. 3.Help your student prioritize their work. It’s usually best to study for tests first. After that, tackle the hardest homework. 4.Help your student to get organized - use an agenda and colored binders. 5. Help them create note cards to review class notes. 6. To do well on tests –review all along, be prepared, and arrive on time. 7. Remember the importance of rest, relaxation, exercise, and a proper diet. A nutritious breakfast will help your student stay focus.

11 Tips on Helping your Student Transition to High School Successfully Provide love & understanding – express your support and LISTEN to their concerns Help your student get organized and use an agenda routinely to mark down assignments Help your student establish a distraction-free place to study with a regular study routine. Set clear limits and establish firm, but fair expectations. Role model good behaviors. Discuss their four year and beyond plan – college, trade or specialty school? – talk to the school counselor. Communicate with teachers: attend open house, conferences and utilize emails, parent portal and websites. Provide healthy nutritious meals & encourage regular exercise & consistent sleep. Talk about the dangers of alcohol, tobacco or other drug use; role play these scenarios & make clear the consequences. Get involved & encourage your student to do the same – Enjoy Cousino High School!
