To implement a work shop in the field of Home Appliance domain (Domotics) To realize a coherent (unified) image about the processes controlled in the house To offer a dynamically adapted system for home appliances To add remote control capabilities for our system To assure a versatile, and anywhere/anytime available to be use in the e-learning process (and not only)

7 Usage of two already available experiments are considered both experiments are targeted for remote monitoring of an automated house: DomoControl 128 based (UTBrasov+PSE drive – “industrial prototype”) TinyDomot based (UNINOVA drive – “academic prototype”) What we intend to accomplish in the near future: Common protocol for both solutions Two implementations for the remote accessed elements

8 TinyDomot Networked controllers Communication among controllers: - dedicated line (RS-485) - LAN (ethernet) - power-line - wireless

9 TinyDomot Networked controllers Each TinyDomot is based on one PIC microcontroller (16F87x) Every TinyDomot has several digital inputs and outputs Possible to define automatic events and relations between inputs and outputs of different TinyDomots Two types of TinyDomots are foreseen: - to interact with users - to be embedded in a equipment or an appliance For TinyDomot for user interaction: - availability of additional LCD and telephone keypad

11 DOMOCONTROL128: main features Acquisition of analog input signals 12 channels (10 bits resolution - 500ms sampling period ) Acquisition of digital input signals 16 channels Command for two analog output signal (12 bits resolution) Command of sixteen digital output channels Temporization 8 independent channels (including the real time clock ) Watch dog function Brown detection level Four serial USART units (two RS485, one RS232, one TTL level) SPI channel communication EEPROM memory & SRAM memory 4MBits/32KBytes

14 Consequences in terms of interoperability  Single set operation of lighting, or in general to control digital actuators  Logical interaction between intelligent systems  Will accept multiple manufacturers systems (interoperability)  Interaction with energy management systems  Interaction with client enterprises such as accounting systems

15 Advantages of this system Scalability Easy reconfiguration Design focused on functions Double role: node of network -(router)-,/ local server and universal module for control Uniform mode for programming & work signal level(e.g. for analogue signals we define 8 different level view like digital values that could be integrate in formulas) Easy to configuration the system using different ways: serial programming, ISP, local keyboard, IrDA devices

16 Didactical considerations We consider three types of users with different levels of permissions: Introductory  Monitor and control the variables Intermediate  Can configure the system Advance  Can reconfigure and reprogramming of the associated controller

17 Conclusions The paper presents a remote laboratory targeted for remote monitoring and control of home appliances. Two dedicated systems were developed (named as DomoControl128 and TinyDomots). Full interconnection between the two systems is foreseen for the near future. Exploitation of remote monitoring and remote reprogramming capabilities of the system can allow students to test different control strategies applied to specific sub-systems within the house or the building.
