The Old Man in the Mountain was a formation carved thousands of years ago by glaciers. It was first recorded by a survey team in 1805, but centuries of wind, snow and rain finally caught up with it, and it collapsed on May 3, 2003. Notice the weather station at the summit of Mt. Washington in the White Mts. That’s the building referred to in this sign. 85% of New Hampshire is covered by forests.
