Factor By Grouping GCF Factoring twice!

2
Factor By Grouping Steps: 1) Try to factor a GCF from the whole expression. 2) Use GCF Factoring to factor the 1 st two terms and last two terms separately 3) Make sure the two parentheses match 4) Write the answer as outside #s in one parentheses and inside #s in the other parentheses

3
Factor By Grouping Examples 10x 3 – 5x 2 + 14x - 7 5x 2 ( ) 5x 2 (2x – 1) (2x – 1)(5x 2 + 7) GCF Factoring Parentheses match? + 7 ( ) + 7(2x - 1)

4
Factor By Grouping Examples 4rt – 6st – 10ru + 15su 2t( ) 2t(2r – 3s) (2r – 3s)(2t – 5u) GCF Factoring Parentheses match? – 5u( ) – 5u(2r – 3s)

5
Factor By Grouping Examples 12x 3 – 9x 2 + 28x – 21 3x 2 ( ) 3x 2 (4x – 3) (4x – 3)(3x 2 + 7) GCF Factoring Parentheses match? + 7( ) + 7(4x – 3)

6
Factor By Grouping Examples Don’t forget that (l+n)=(n+l)!!! –Rearrange the terms so the k’s and the m’s are together. GCF Factoring kl+mn+ml+kn No GCF? kl+kn+mn+ml k(l+n)+m(n+l) (n+l)(k+m)

7
Factor By Grouping Examples 3abd-3abe-3acd+3ace 3a[bd-be-cd+ce] 3a[b(d-e)-c(d-e)] 3a(d-e)(b-c)
