(Joh 20:30) And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book: that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of Godand that believing ye might have life through his name (Joh 20:31) But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.

(Joh 3:22-30) After these things came Jesus and his disciples into the land of Judaea; and there he tarried with them, and baptized. And John also was baptizing in Aenon near to Salim, because there was much water there: and they came, and were baptized. For John was not yet cast into prison. Then there arose a question between some of John's disciples and the Jews about purifying. And they came unto John, and said unto him, Rabbi, he that was with thee beyond Jordan, to whom thou barest witness, behold, the same baptizeth, and all men come to him. John answered and said, A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven. Ye yourselves bear me witness, that I said, I am not the Christ, but that I am sent before him. He that hath the bride is the bridegroom: but the friend of the bridegroom, which standeth and heareth him, rejoiceth greatly because of the bridegroom's voice: this my joy therefore is fulfilled. He must increase, but I must decrease.

Then there arose a question between some of John's disciples and the Jews about purifying. And they came unto John John answered (Joh 3:22-27) After these things came Jesus and his disciples into the land of Judaea; and there he tarried with them, and baptized. And John also was baptizing in Aenon near to Salim, because there was much water there: and they came, and were baptized. For John was not yet cast into prison. 9 A. Humility in the answer to our problems

(Pro 15:1) A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger. (Pro 28:25) He that is of a proud heart stirreth up strife: but he that putteth his trust in the LORD shall be made fat.

the LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away (Job 1:20-21) Then Job arose, and rent his mantle, and shaved his head, and fell down upon the ground, and worshipped, And said, Naked came I out of my mother's womb, and naked shall I return thither: the LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.

B. Humility in the approach to our problems

(Pro 13:10) Only by pride cometh contention: but with the well advised is wisdom. (Pro 29:23) A man's pride shall bring him low: but honour shall uphold the humble in spirit. (Pro 16:18) Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.

(Jas 4:1-6) From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members? Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not. Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts. Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God. Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy? But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.

(Job 42:10) And the LORD turned the captivity of Job, when he prayed for his friends: also the LORD gave Job twice as much as he had before.

A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven (Joh 3:26-27) And they came unto John, and said unto him, Rabbi, he that was with thee beyond Jordan, to whom thou barest witness, behold, the same baptizeth, and all men come to him. John answered and said, A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven.

A. It starts with acceptance of the origin of our possessions

the LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away (Job 1:20-21) Then Job arose, and rent his mantle, and shaved his head, and fell down upon the ground, and worshipped, And said, Naked came I out of my mother's womb, and naked shall I return thither: the LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.

(Tit 3:3) For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another.

B. It continues with an approach to our desires

(Psa 23:1) A Psalm of David. The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. (Psa 37:4) Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.

(Act 5:1-4) But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession, And kept back part of the price, his wife also being privy to it, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles' feet. But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land? Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God.

I am not the Christbutthat I am sent before him (Joh 3:28-30) Ye yourselves bear me witness, that I said, I am not the Christ, but that I am sent before him. He that hath the bride is the bridegroom: but the friend of the bridegroom, which standeth and heareth him, rejoiceth greatly because of the bridegroom's voice: this my joy therefore is fulfilled. He must increase, but I must decrease.

A. It comes with being at ease of who we are

B. It is centered around the attitude of our heart

He must increase, but I must decrease (Joh 3:28-30) Ye yourselves bear me witness, that I said, I am not the Christ, but that I am sent before him. He that hath the bride is the bridegroom: but the friend of the bridegroom, which standeth and heareth him, rejoiceth greatly because of the bridegroom's voice: this my joy therefore is fulfilled. He must increase, but I must decrease.

God wisely designed the human body so that we neither pat our own backs … nor kick ourselves to easily. ~ Anonymous ~
