1 Beth Yeshua Messianic Congregation
Spiritual Warfare Part 2 Deliverance Ministry

2 What We Wrestle Against
Shaul explains the assaults of Satan and his demons saying, "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places." (Ephesians 6:12)

3 The Purpose of Ministering Deliverance to Those in Captivity
Deliverance Ministry The Purpose of Ministering Deliverance to Those in Captivity

4 Freedom for the Captives
Yeshua was sent forth to preach deliverance to the captives – Luke 4:

5 16 Now when he went to Natzeret, where he had been brought up, on Shabbat he went to the synagogue as usual. He stood up to read, 17 and he was given the scroll of the prophet Yesha‘yahu. Unrolling the scroll, he found the place where it was written,

6 Isaiah 61:1–2; 58:6 18 “The Spirit of Adonai is upon me; therefore he has anointed me to announce Good News to the poor; he has sent me to proclaim freedom for the imprisoned and renewed sight for the blind, to release those who have been crushed, 19 to proclaim a year of the favor of Adonai.”

7 Luke 4 20 After closing the scroll and returning it to the shammash, he sat down; and the eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fixed on him. 21 He started to speak to them: “Today, as you heard it read, this passage of the Tanakh was fulfilled!”

8 Deliverance Ministry isn't Solely about Demons!
It's about guiding and helping people to come into the victory that Messiah died to give them! The purpose of ministering deliverance is to set free those who are in bondage.

9 On Occasion, This Does Involve Casting Out Demons
We Receive Authority from Yeshua to Do So!

10 Authority The power or right to give orders, make decisions, and enforce obedience: "he had absolute authority over his subordinates". The right to act in a specified way, delegated from one person or organization to another.

11 John 3 3 There was a man among the P’rushim, named Nakdimon, who was a ruler of the Judeans. 2 This man came to Yeshua by night and said to him, “Rabbi, we know it is from God that you have come as a teacher; for no one can do these miracles you perform unless God is with him.”

12 Yeshua HAD Recognizable Authority! Luke 7
2 A Roman army officer there had a servant he regarded highly, who was sick to the point of death. 3 Hearing about Yeshua, the officer sent some Jewish elders to him with the request that he come and heal his servant. 4 They came to Yeshua and pleaded earnestly with him, "He really deserves to have you do this, 5 for he loves our people -- in fact, he built the synagogue for us!"

13 6 So Yeshua went with them
6 So Yeshua went with them. He had not gone far from the house, when the officer sent friends who said to him, "Sir, don't trouble yourself. I'm not worthy to have you come under my roof -- 7 this is why I didn't presume to approach you myself. Instead, just give a command and let my servant recover. 8 For I too am a man set under authority. I have soldiers under me; and I say to this one, `Go!' and he goes; and to another, `Come!' and he comes; and to my slave, `Do this!' and he does it."

14 9 Yeshua was astonished at him when he heard this; and he turned and said to the crowd following him, "I tell you, not even in Isra'el have I found such trust!" 10 When the messengers got back to the officer's house, they found the servant in good health.

15 Casting out the demons:
This requires two basic elements: Knowledge of your authority in Messiah Yeshua over the powers of the enemy, Faith in that authority.

16 1) Knowledge of your authority in Messiah Yeshua over the powers of the enemy

17 As Yeshua was sent fourth to preach deliverance to the captives so we are also sent out (John 20:21, "Then said Yeshua to them... as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you.") to do the works He did (John 14:12, "He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also..."), and this includes casting out of devils (Matthew 10:8).

18 The Authority of Believers in Yeshua Over Demons
Luke 10:1 After this, the Lord appointed seventy other talmidim and sent them on ahead in pairs to every town and place where he himself was about to go… 17 The seventy came back jubilant. “Lord,” they said, “with your power, even the demons submit to us!” 18 Yeshua said to them, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.

19 19 Remember, I have given you authority; so you can trample down snakes and scorpions, indeed, all the Enemy’s forces; and you will remain completely unharmed.

20 Authority Given to Disciples – Matthew 10
10 Jesus summoned His twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal every kind of disease and every kind of sickness…

21 7 And as you go, preach, saying, ‘The kingdom of heaven is at hand
7 And as you go, preach, saying, ‘The kingdom of heaven is at hand.’ 8 Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons. Freely you received, freely give.

22 Not to Fear Harm Romans 8:37-39
No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons…will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Messiah Yeshua our Lord.

23 Mark 16:15,17 "And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature... And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils."

24 Acts 8 6 The crowds with one accord were giving attention to what was said by Philip, as they heard and saw the signs which he was performing. 7 For in the case of many who had unclean spirits, they were coming out of them shouting with a loud voice; and many who had been paralyzed and lame were healed. 8 So there was much rejoicing in that city.

25 We Don’t Need to Scream or Holler
Demons are cast out with a simple spoken command, such as, "I command the spirit of (name of spirit) to come out in the Name of Yeshua."

26 He Spoke and It Was Done One who has recognized Authority does NOT need to scream at the demon! The demon will RECOGNIZE the Authority given to us by Yeshua!

27 Failure of the Sons of Sceva
The practical importance for deliverance ministry of being in submission to God is seen in the dismal failure of the sons of Sceva to cast out a demon (Acts 19:13-16).

28 Being not just Jews, but priests – sons of the chief priest, in fact – these men would have known Scripture exceptionally well and were most likely highly moral. They were probably also very caring and loving, since they were trying to relieve someone afflicted by demons.

29 This all counted as nothing, however, because they were not in submissive union with Yeshua. Their attempted exorcism was so disastrous that they themselves ended up attacked.

30 So, What Did Yeshua Do? Overall, He dealt with demons as the situation presented itself. His Ministry wasn’t focused solely on Demons!

31 Matthew 4:23-25 23 Jesus was going throughout all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every kind of disease and every kind of sickness among the people. 24 The news about Him spread throughout all Syria; and they brought to Him all who were ill, those suffering with various diseases and pains, demoniacs, epileptics, paralytics; and He healed them. 25 Large crowds followed Him from Galilee and the Decapolis and Jerusalem and Judea and from beyond the Jordan.

32 Matthew 8:14-17 14 When Jesus came into Peter’s home, He saw his mother-in-law lying sick in bed with a fever. 15 He touched her hand, and the fever left her; and she got up and waited on Him. 16 When evening came, they brought to Him many who were demon-possessed; and He cast out the spirits with a word, and healed all who were ill. 17 This was to fulfill what was spoken through Isaiah the prophet: “He Himself took our infirmities and carried away our diseases.”

33 Matthew 9:32-34 32 As they were going out, a mute, demon-possessed man was brought to Him. 33 After the demon was cast out, the mute man spoke; and the crowds were amazed, and were saying, “Nothing like this has ever been seen in Israel.” 34 But the Pharisees were saying, “He casts out the demons by the ruler of the demons.”

34 Matthew 12:22-32 22 Then a demon-possessed man who was blind and mute was brought to Jesus, and He healed him, so that the mute man spoke and saw. 23 All the crowds were amazed, and were saying, “This man cannot be the Son of David, can he?” 24 But when the Pharisees heard this, they said, “This man casts out demons only by Beelzebul the ruler of the demons.”

35 Mark 1 21 They went into Capernaum; and immediately on the Sabbath He entered the synagogue and began to teach. 22 They were amazed at His teaching; for He was teaching them as one having authority, and not as the scribes. 23 Just then there was a man in their synagogue with an unclean spirit; and he cried out, 24 saying, “What business do we have with each other, Jesus of Nazareth? Have You come to destroy us? I know who You are—the Holy One of God!”

36 25 And Jesus rebuked him, saying, “Be quiet, and come out of him
25 And Jesus rebuked him, saying, “Be quiet, and come out of him!” 26 Throwing him into convulsions, the unclean spirit cried out with a loud voice and came out of him. 27 They were all amazed, so that they debated among themselves, saying, “What is this? A new teaching with authority! He commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey Him.” 28 Immediately the news about Him spread everywhere into all the surrounding district of Galilee.

37 Mark 16:9 9 Now after He had risen early on the first day of the week, He first appeared to Mary Magdalene, from whom He had cast out seven demons. Luke 8:1 After this, Yeshua traveled about from town to town and village to village, proclaiming the Good News of the Kingdom of God. With him were the Twelve, 2 and a number of women who had been healed from evil spirits and illnesses -- Miryam (called Magdalit), from whom seven demons had gone out…

38 Mark 9 14 When they got back to the talmidim, they saw a large crowd around them and some Torah-teachers arguing with them. 15 As soon as the crowd saw him, they were surprised and ran out to greet him. 16 He asked them, "What's the discussion about?" 17 One of the crowd gave him the answer: "Rabbi, I brought my son to you because he has an evil spirit in him that makes him unable to talk.

39 18 Whenever it seizes him, it throws him to the ground -- he foams at the mouth, grinds his teeth and becomes stiff all over. I asked your talmidim to drive the spirit out, but they couldn't do it." 19 "People without any trust!" he responded. "How long will I be with you? How long must I put up with you? Bring him to me!"

40 20 They brought the boy to him; and as soon as the spirit saw him, it threw the boy into a convulsion. 21 Yeshua asked the boy's father, "How long has this been happening to him?" "Ever since childhood," he said; 22 "and it often tries to kill him by throwing him into the fire or into the water…

41 Let’s Recap What We’ve Just Seen in these Preceding Scriptures
And how Yeshua Handled Demonized people

42 1) With One Exception, In the Majority of Cases of Deliverance from Demons by Yeshua
Yeshua did NOT go out of His way to GO TO THEM to heal and deliver them from the demons. The demoniac was brought to Him and He delivered them!

43 Yeshua Went Out of His Way only ONE Time During His Ministry to Deal with Demons - Luke 8

44 In the Preceding Chapter - Luke 7 He Was Ministering on the Opposite Side of the Sea of Galilee
When Yeshua had finished speaking to the people, he went back to K'far-Nachum.

45 Capernaum

46 Then in Luke 8:1 it Says: After this, Yeshua traveled about from town to town and village to village, proclaiming the Good News of the Kingdom of God…

47 22 One day Yeshua got into a boat with his talmidim and said to them, "Let's cross to the other side of the lake…” 26 Then they sailed to the country of the Gadarenes, which is opposite Galilee.

48 Gadarenes

49 27 And when He stepped out on the land, there met Him a certain man from the city who had demons for a long time. And he wore no clothes, nor did he live in a house but in the tombs. 28 When he saw Jesus, he cried out, fell down before Him, and with a loud voice said, "What have I to do with You, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg You, do not torment me!"

50 29 For He had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man
29 For He had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. For it had often seized him, and he was kept under guard, bound with chains and shackles; and he broke the bonds and was driven by the demon into the wilderness. 30 Jesus asked him, saying, "What is your name?" And he said, "Legion," because many demons had entered him. 31 And they begged Him that He would not command them to go out into the abyss.

51 32 Now a herd of many swine was feeding there on the mountain
32 Now a herd of many swine was feeding there on the mountain. So they begged Him that He would permit them to enter them. And He permitted them. 33 Then the demons went out of the man and entered the swine, and the herd ran violently down the steep place into the lake and drowned. 34 When those who fed them saw what had happened, they fled and told it in the city and in the country.

52 35 Then they went out to see what had happened, and came to Jesus, and found the man from whom the demons had departed, sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed and in his right mind. And they were afraid. 36 They also who had seen it told them by what means he who had been demon-possessed was healed. 37 Then the whole multitude of the surrounding region of the Gadarenes asked Him to depart from them, for they were seized with great fear. And He got into the boat and returned.

53 Note: A Demonized Person Doesn’t Become “Saved” Until the Demons Are Removed
38 Now the man from whom the demons had departed begged Him that he might be with Him. But Jesus sent him away, saying, 39 "Return to your own house, and tell what great things God has done for you." And he went his way and proclaimed throughout the whole city what great things Jesus had done for him.

54 2) The Demons Were Cast Out With a Word
We don’t have to Scream and holler at the demons to remove them from a demonized person! One who has authority only has to speak the word!

55 And the Best Word to Use is the Word of God!
That’s what Yeshua did during his temptation in the Wilderness by Satan! He answered Satan with the ALREADY WRITTEN Word of God: “It is Written…”

56 3) When the Demons Came Out of the Demonized Person, They Often Screamed and Hollered Upon Being Removed

57 2) Faith in that Authority
God IS able to do Everything! What Holds him back is our lack of Faith!

58 “…But if you can do anything, have pity on us and help us
“…But if you can do anything, have pity on us and help us!" 23 Yeshua said to him, "What do you mean, `if you can'? Everything is possible to someone who has trust!" 24 Instantly the father of the child exclaimed, "I do trust -- help my lack of trust!" 25 When Yeshua saw that the crowd was closing in on them, he rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to it, "You deaf and dumb spirit! I command you: come out of him, and never go back into him again!"

59 26 Shrieking and throwing the boy into a violent fit, it came out
26 Shrieking and throwing the boy into a violent fit, it came out. The boy lay there like a corpse, so that most of the people said he was dead. 27 But Yeshua took him by the hand and raised him to his feet, and he stood up. 28 After Yeshua had gone indoors, his talmidim asked him privately, "Why couldn't we drive it out?" 29 He said to them "This is the kind of spirit that can be driven out only by prayer."

60 This is the kind of spirit that can be driven out only by prayer
Sometimes when we deal with evil spirits, the spirit is a strong spirit. It is then that we must “regroup” and go into prayer and fasting before we come back to cast out the demon!

61 Matthew 15: 21 21 Then Jesus went out from there and departed to the region of Tyre and Sidon.

62 Matthew 15:22-28 22 And behold, a woman of Canaan came from that region and cried out to Him, saying, "Have mercy on me, O Lord, Son of David! My daughter is severely demon-possessed." 23 But He answered her not a word. And His disciples came and urged Him, saying, "Send her away, for she cries out after us."

63 24 But He answered and said, "I was not sent except to the lost sheep of the house of Israel." 25 Then she came and worshiped Him, saying, "Lord, help me!" 26 But He answered and said, "It is not good to take the children's bread and throw it to the little dogs." 27 And she said, "Yes, Lord, yet even the little dogs eat the crumbs which fall from their masters' table." 28 Then Jesus answered and said to her, "O woman, great is your faith! Let it be to you as you desire." And her daughter was healed from that very hour.
