He is a McNair Scholar and was involved in the Global Media Initiative, a cohort of young journalists who visited France and the United Kingdom to cover the state of their economies in early 2009. Andrew devotes himself to serving underrepresented communities. For the past five years he has been a dance instructor, choreographer of musicals, and occasional rehearsal and performance pianist at a racially diverse performing arts magnet high school in San Jose His educational goal is to receive a Ph.D. in Performance Studies and examine the performance of gender, as well as queer issues in performance. More specifically, to research how dance and musical theatre performance can have an impact on nontraditional and marginalized audiences. Funded by the Mellon Foundation and UNC-CH, MURAP’s objective is to foster the entrance of talented students from diverse backgrounds into graduate school and faculty positions within the humanities, social sciences, and fine arts in U.S. colleges and universities. March 20-March 27, 2009 Staff writer for the Global Media Initiative, a team of SJSU journalists who traveled to London and Paris to write about their respective economies. Worked with concerned neighbors and business owners to identify, report and remove graffiti from public and private spaces.
