8 Removal of the Term “Private” The Commission operates in such a manner that ownership form or structure are not relevant factors in determining a school’s compliance with ACCSC’s Standards of Accreditation. Accordingly, the Commission has opted to remove the term “private” from the Standards of Accreditation and concordantly requested a technical change to ACCSC’s scope of recognition with the Department of Education. The U.S. Department of Education granted the Commission’s request and has removed the term “private” from ACCSC’s statement of scope of recognition. The Commission came to these proposed revisions through its strategic planning process and had determined that the proposed revisions represent changes which are in the best interest of the organization and the ACCSC membership. The March 1, 2013 Accreditation Alert serves as notice that the membership has accepted all of the proposed revisions through a greater than 2/3 affirmative vote as required by Section 4.04 of the AACSC Bylaws.
