Claudius confesses! For what two things did Claudius commit his sin? Does he feel bad for his sins? “It hath the primal eldest curse upon’t” A reference to the Biblical story of Cain and Abel. “A brother’s murder!”
Hamlet hesitates! After having the play confirm his suspicions, why does Hamlet hesitate to kill Claudius when he finds him alone and kneeling? What is he waiting for? “And now I’ll do’t”
Hamlet begins by berating his mother. This scene has long been linked to Hamlet’s Oedipal Complex. Hamlet hesitates to kill Claudius and then walks into Gertrude’s bedroom. Why does Hamlet immediately jump to murder the “Claudius” behind the curtain? What is Hamlet’s reaction to killing Polonius? “Mother, you have my father much offended.”
