2 The Statement That Caused The Uproar "We are very much supportive of the family — the biblical definition of the family unit. We are a family-owned business, a family-led business, and we are married to our first wives. We give God thanks for that.... We want to do anything we possibly can to strengthen families. We are very much committed to that," Cathy emphasized. "We intend to stay the course," he said. "We know that it might not be popular with everyone, but thank the Lord, we live in a country where we can share our values and operate on biblical principles.” (Dan Cathy - www.brnow.org)

Be encouraged that so many people care about what is right and respect God’s plan for marriage! – Then on August 1, 2012 thousands and thousands of people took a stand together for something in which we believe! There were long lines wrapping around stores, cars backing up major roads, people waiting hours for food, cheering when food ran out There were long lines wrapping around stores, cars backing up major roads, people waiting hours for food, cheering when food ran out Certainly some had the wrong motivation and had the wrong attitude in their hearts toward others… but most were doing this to stand up for what they believe in and standing to support another person. He dwelled on the ungodliness & wickedness so much that he lost his focus He feels alone and depressed spiritually – Why? He dwelled on the ungodliness & wickedness so much that he lost his focus God’s Message: There are 7,000 people left in Israel who will stand with you against idolatry... you are not and will not be alone! God’s Message: There are 7,000 people left in Israel who will stand with you against idolatry... you are not and will not be alone! This motivated Elijah to get back up and keep fighting for what was right and true. Knowing he wasn’t alone was strengthening! How many people more people might God have in this area? (Acts 18:9-11) Lessons From The Chick-Fil-A Stand

6 Making judgments against sinfulness and condemning sin is not about intolerance or hate speech: Making judgments against sinfulness and condemning sin is not about intolerance or hate speech: – Some who opposed the original statement and others made like it say that it goes against the nature of Christianity: In other words, it’s not Christ-like to condemn and judge other people In other words, it’s not Christ-like to condemn and judge other people “Don’t judge me” becomes a trump card – Releases from guilt & criticism “Don’t judge me” becomes a trump card – Releases from guilt & criticism – Such statements come from people who don’t really know Jesus! Jesus did condemn, draw lines, & command repentance. He wasn’t soft or accepting of sin (John 5:14; John 8:11; Matthew 23) Jesus did condemn, draw lines, & command repentance. It’s not about never judging but avoiding the kind that is hypocritical in nature They fail to read on – Jesus clarifies what He means. It’s not about never judging but avoiding the kind that is hypocritical in nature He says to get the beam out of our own eye and then go to our brother – So some judgments must be made! (John 7:24; Mt 7:15-20, etc) False assurance is found – If I don’t judge others then God won’t judge me! Again, this isn’t about ALL judgment (Jas 2:13) False assurance is found – If I don’t judge others then God won’t judge me! Again, this isn’t about ALL judgment (Jas 2:13) You cannot obey God’s word without making judgments and being willing to condemn those in sin and error. They knew God could save them, but didn’t know if He would When these men took their stands, they were not sure how it would turn out. 14 Be careful about how we stand and the things we say: Be careful about how we stand and the things we say: – While this event was a great opportunity for the light of truth to shine, it could have also been a chance for the cause of Christ to be blasphemed: If those who professed to be Christians spoke and acted with bitterness, anger, hatred, and animosity… It could have been a very dark day. 15 Be careful about how we stand and the things we say: Be careful about how we stand and the things we say: – Condemning sin and standing against sin is important. But we don’t get pleasure out of people being lost! (Romans 9:1-3) – Yes, we need to speak the truth with boldness and conviction, but that’s not an excuse for being mean, ugly, or bitter in the way we speak it! (Col. 4:6; Ephesians 4:15) – We need to make sure that we don’t have the attitude of the Pharisees when it comes to our view of those who are “dirty” with sin. Do we care enough to get personally involved? Lessons From The Chick-Fil-A Stand
