Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. Mighty Sixth District Council Meeting September 16-18, 2011 Aiken, SC
NAACP/CEF Committee Bro. Reuben Blackwell, Committee Chair Bro. T. Anthony Spearman, Committee Vice-Chair
Present the 6th District-adopted Hooks Resolution to the NC & SC State Conference of Branches of the NAACP. The Mighty Sixth has adopted an historic document outlining our commitment to our Founders’ ideals for civil rights and equality The Hooks Resolution clearly defines action items about how each Omega chapter can support the NAACP and help secure freedom for all Americans. The Hooks Resolution will spur activity from other Greeks to join Omega in helping to move the South and America forward.
Further define our recently presented and adopted "Those Voting Ques" initiative. Voting rights for people of color are under attack in North and South Carolina. The 2012 election might define the political landscape in America for the next decade. The Sixth District has the opportunity to motivate and lead unprecedented numbers of people to the polls in North and South Carolina. Ask each Chapter (Graduate and Undergraduate) to appoint a member to lead Those Voting Ques in their community.
Further define our recently presented and adopted "Those Voting Ques" initiative. (continued) Ensure each financial member of the Mighty Sixth votes in upcoming primary and general elections. Each chapter should set goals for how many people they can register and take to the polls. All chapters will make report of their results to the District after each election. Coordinate our GOTV (Get Out The Vote) efforts with 6 th District Political Action Committee. Invite Rev. Dr. William Barber, President of the NC State Conference of Branches of the NAACP, to speak at our December Council Committee Meeting and lead us in a GOTV training for all participants. Open this meeting to the public, thereby securing Omega’s leadership in 2012 elections.
Send a representative from the Mighty 6th District to both the NC & SC NAACP State Conventions. Provide registration and lodging for one representative from the Mighty Sixth District to each State Conference Convention in order to establish the presence and impact of Omega Psi Phi in civil rights. Take a full page advertisement in each Convention booklet. Look for methods of coordination and mutual support for our Fraternity and the NAACP. Submit a formal report to the District after each Convention.
Assign Undergraduate Chapters to work with the NC & SC NAACP leadership in supporting their mass rally efforts in 2012. Both State Conferences convene annual rally events to promote broadly accepted agendas for progressive public policy. Historically, young people have led significant and impactful civil rights efforts in America. Members of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity have always been in the front lines of civil rights organizing and mobilizing. Civil rights movements in the South desperately need youthful leadership and inspiration.
Assign Undergraduate Chapters to work with the NC & SC NAACP leadership in supporting their mass rally efforts in 2012. (continued) The Mighty Sixth boasts talented and scholastic leaders on college campuses in North and South Carolina. Ask Undergraduate brothers to work with college or local NAACP chapters to support statewide rallies. Encourage Undergraduate brothers to assume leadership positions within the college NAACP chapters and lead at least one public service event to support voter registration and mobilization. Report results to the District.
