2 NBE Sweden AB Robert Taflin,Visby 11 June The BioEnergy Combine in Härjedalen - an idea involving as follows Conversion of local renewable forestry resources to commercially demanded and environmentally accepted bio fuels through applying systems thinking. The various parts of the Combine interacts and cater together for a highly efficient and economical utilisation of forestry resources, which also makes the facility profitable. The Combine contributes to a regionally sustainable development through creation of permanent jobs and by strengthening the industrial structure. 6 NBE Sweden AB Robert Taflin,Visby 11 June Main Activities for the BioEnergy Combine Project in Härjedalen 1.A pre-study was completed in March There will be trials with hydrolysis, fermentation and green house cultivation during a 18 month period. –Design of trial facilities –Construction and Erection of the facilities and carrying out of trials –Evaluation of trials –Process Optimisation Cultivation trials in a m 3 green house Detailed Engineering of the parts of the Combine Total 75 MSEK (owners capital 24 MSEK grant 51 MSEK). 3. Construction and Erection of the Combine.The total project cost is estimated to be MSEK

8 NBE Sweden AB Robert Taflin,Visby 11 June Production of ethanol from wood in an industrial scale is not yet commercially available technology NBE Sweden will therefore; 1.Construct a test rig representing one of several parallel lines in a batch based hydrolysis process. The rig, in full scale, will be utilised for trials and process development during 18 months at a total cost of 47 MSEK. 2.Through initial trials; –Optimise the process for various local forest resources and minimise the parasitic energy demand. –Verify the expected ethanol yield at various operational conditions –Minimise technical and financial risks for the full production facility. 3.Through future trials further develop the process for a broader raw material base including various type of grass, straw etc. 4.Develop the ethanol process within the Combine to maximise the over all output and make efficient use of valuable by-products as lignin, green CO 2 etc. 5.Construct a flexible and robust plant to facilitate for further process development, improvements and a future conversion to enzyme based hydrolysis for a better ethanol yield.

12 NBE Sweden AB Robert Taflin,Visby 11 June The Base for the Trials 1.Test the parts of the process that are not yet commercial available. 2.Utilise batch technology for the dilute acid hydrolysis and also enzym hydrolysis of the different raw material. 3.Carry out the batch trials in an industrial scale. 4.Establish repeatable trials and then gradually improve the ethanol yield. 5.Optimise output of by-products as lignin- cellulose and green carbon dioxide.
