Heir Apparent The Power-Point version of the Total Immersion RPG

Once Upon a Time… It’s a quiet day on your small farm. You are happily playing with your dog when your mother calls you. You saunter up to your house in all your bedraggled glory and see a man in a fine velvet suit standing next to your mother. He wrinkles his nose in distaste as you approach…

Misplaced Royalty Your mother introduces this man as Sir Deming and then tells you the shocking secret of your birth. Yep, that’s right. You’re royalty-in-disguise, but the king has died and named you sole heir, alienating your three brothers, who you are expected to go and meet at the palace. What do you do? Refuse to leaveRefuse to leave. or Ride off into the unknown with this Sir Deming, leaving your family and dog behindRide off into the unknown with this Sir Deming, leaving your family and dog behind.

No, No, I Won’t Go! You refuse to leave. After all, you grew up here. You know absolutely zip about how to run a country, and you’re not about to start now. Let someone with more experience handle it. You live out your days pleasantly enough as a sheep farmer, but you always wonder what might have been… especially when the new king raises your taxes. GAME OVER

Into the Woods You ride off with Sir Deming. The carriage stops at a small shrine in the middle of the woods. Sir Deming tells you that you must pass a test in order to prove that you’re the true heir to the throne. Do you… Refuse (after all, he came looking for you, that should be proof enough)Refuse (after all, he came looking for you, that should be proof enough). or Want to know moreWant to know more.

No way, Jose Ok, really? This guy came to your house, claims that you’re the heir to the throne, which you had no idea about until just this morning, and now he wants you to prove yourself. Not gonna happen. You bail, getting yourself hopelessly lost in the woods in the process. What do you do? Struggle on. You can find your own wayStruggle on. You can find your own way. or Return to Sir Deming to ask for directionsReturn to Sir Deming to ask for directions.

Howl at the Moon Night falls as you blindly make your way through the forest. You hear the howling of wolves close by. It sounds like they might be inviting you to dinner. Game Over

The Test Sir Deming takes you into the shrine where you see the statue of a knight. He tells you that this is the statue of Sir Bruce the Warrior Poet. Sir Bruce currently has possession of a magic ring that you will need to win over your family. The test? You have to recite a poem. If Sir Bruce likes your poem, you get the ring. If not, you lose your head. No bailing this time. Start reciting.

Heir Apparent Idol Did Sir Bruce like your poem? Yes Yes or NoNo

Don’t Lose Your Head Sir Bruce’s hands shake, and you glance over to Sir Deming to see if you did all right. The last thing you see before Sir Bruce’s sword comes crashing down is Sir Deming’s smirking face. Game Over

Don’t Lose Your Head Sir Bruce’s hands shake and the sword drops from them revealing a secret compartment where a small gold ring is stored along with a long letter from your father the king that basically tells you that the ring has the power to make anyone like you. You contemplate using it on Sir Deming, but do you really want to waste it like that? Yes Yes or NoNo

Rough Customer “Finally!” Sir Deming proclaims, like it should have been easy coming up with a poem that would please a moldy old statue. He grabs your arm roughly and hustles you into the carriage. You travel the rest of the way to the castle with barely a civil word between you.

Prince/Princess Charming You use the ring, and instantly you notice a change in his rapport with you. What a relief! Now you don’t have to deal with the mean stares and the constant reminders of your horrible hygiene. Now you can proceed happily with the business of ruling a kingdom.

Home Sweet Castle You’ve arrived at the castle just after dinner, and well, to be honest, you kinda stink. The queen is demanding your presence right away. Do you… Take a bath or visit your family immediatelyvisit your family immediately?

Hot Water The queen seems pretty peeved that you didn’t come when you were called, but honestly, what can she do about it? You’re the one in charge after all. Begrudgingly, she introduces you to your three brothers.brothers

Smells Like Teen Spirit You enter the throne room as quickly as possible. Everyone in the room makes a face of distaste as you enter trailing the whiff of farm life and a day on the road with you. The queen tries not to gag as she introduces you to your brothers.brothers

Wulfgar Your oldest brother who would have inherited the throne, had you not been around. He has been educated abroad. He’s dark, brooding, and he may well have a dirty secret or two. Do you befriend him or use the ring to make him befriend you or wait to be introduced to the next brother?befriend him use the ring to make him befriend you wait to be introduced to the next brother

Prince/Princess Charming You use the ring, and instantly you notice a change in his rapport with you. What a relief! Now you don’t have to deal with the mean stares and the constant reminders of your horrible hygiene. Now you can proceed happily with the business of ruling a kingdom.

Abas Your second oldest brother, and seemingly the queen’s favorite. Even though he’s a bit of a momma’s boy, he’s definitely not a wimp. You find that he’s actually a pretty good warrior, even if he’s a bit lacking in the brains department. Do you befriend him or use your ring to make him befriend you or wait to be introduced to your next brother?befriend him use your ring to make him befriend you wait to be introduced to your next brother

Brotherly Love After the meeting, you make friends with Abas. He invites you to train with him. You go along with it, and soon he’s got you in a head-lock. You try to struggle and let him know that this isn’t funny anymore, but pretty soon it’s lights out. Game Over

Barbarians Invade! An alarm bell sounds and a guard rushes in to tell you that barbarians have invaded! They are demanding a crown that was stolen from them by your father. You have no idea where this crown is. What do you do? Attack! Run and Hide. Try to Reason with themTry to Reason with them.

I laugh in the face of danger…then I hide until it goes away. You take one look at this situation and you bolt. Hey, you don’t need this, you just got here. The barbarians find you hiding in a pile of hay in the barn. They kidnap you, and demand the crown as ransom. You know very well that your new royal family isn’t about to pay. Game Over

ATTACK You lead the charge against the invading barbarians, and your guards aren’t fighting with all their might, but they are defending themselves. You find yourself face to face with the barbarian king…

Betrayal The king demands your head as payment for the crown that your father stole. Your brother, Abas, nods his agreement. The last thing you see when barbarian king executes you is Abas waving goodbye, and the ring that is missing from his finger. Game over

My kingdom for a crown Your advisors inform you that the crown was indeed stolen from your father and was a magic crown that was lost to a gnome in a riddling contest. No one knows where the gnome lives, but the country’s magic- user’s might. You call for a meeting of the magic-users.

Magic Moment The kingdom’s magic-user’s are called together. Only one of them has the ability to tell you where the gnome is, but he wants a particular item for his troubles. It is a ring that allows its user to command the friendship of one person. Do you still have the magic ring? Yes Yes or NoNo

The Price is Not Right You arrive at the meeting after not having any luck locating the crown because, well, none of the magic-users will meet with you now that Sister Mary Ursula’s around. Sister Mary Ursula is in the room, and she and the barbarian king are definitely flirting with each other. You’re pretty annoyed with her as it is. What do you do? Offer Sister Mary Ursula’s hand in marriage instead of the crown Explain the situation

It’s the Thought that Counts “I have a crazy idea,” you say, and then, you explain that you have no idea where to find the gnome that won that magic crown, but you suggest that Sister Mary Ursula would make a great wife and a better substitute than some silly old crown. She blushes, and the barbarian king laughs and tells you that if it were up to him, he’d take you up on it, but it’s not. So, he lops off your head. Game Over

In the Deep Dark… The magician consults his crystal ball and tells you that the gnome is living in the catacombs of a church graveyard in a town that is only a day’s travel from the castle. You decide to head out to the catacombs accompanied by a small set of guards.

Oops The magician refuses to help you without proper payment, and so you are forced to go to the Barbarian king and explain the situationexplain the situation.

Royal Tantrum You’re tired; you’re hungry, and you’ve got to get into those catacombs. Why can’t these lazy guards see that? You tell them off for being so lazy, but they’re overworked and underpaid and not in the mood to deal with your shenanigans. Game Over

Thief in Our Midst After you agree to sign on with Counselor Rawdon, everyone sighs with relief and heads down to dinner. Your counselor disappears from your party along the way, and as you sit down to dinner a guard bursts in telling you that Counselor Rawdon has disappeared along with the contents of your treasury! You call forth the captain of the guards for an explanation.

Grumble, grumble The captain of the guard agrees to meet with you, but that’s all. He tells you that the guards have not been paid. 54 We’ll Find It! You promise to return the guards wages just as soon as you can recover your treasury. If the guards will assist you in this endeavor, they’ll get paid that much faster. They agree and tell you that Counselor Rawdon was last seen riding out toward Fairfield. They even join you in traveling to Fairfield.

Fairfield No one remembers seeing Counselor Rawdon, except one little boy, but he’ll only tell you for a price. The price is one gold coin, and he wants it now. You haven’t a cent to your name, what do you do? Beat up the boy or Beg money off the guardsBeg money off the guards?

Riddle Me This A gnome is standing there with a crown on his head. You ask him for the crown. He smirks and says that he will give you the crown and all of his treasure if you answer his riddle correctly. If you don’t, you will be lost in the catacombs forever. Then, he recites:

Under where? Riddle me this. Riddle me that. What is over the head and under the hat? He looks at you expectantly. What do you answer? The answer is “I don’t have time for this!” The answer is hair. The answer is crown.

I don’t have time for this! You announce that the whole riddling contest is foolish and a waste of your time. The gnome just laughs and disappears taking the crown and any hopes you had of finding your way out of the catacombs with him. Game Over.

Hair for the Heir The gnome grins and sweeps off the crown and tosses it in your general direction. He disappears and leaves behind him a huge mountain of treasure.
