ONE MAN MAKES THE DIFFERENCE The word “LEADER” comes from “LORD” which meant, in old Norse, the course or path of a ship at sea. The leader was the captain, who in Viking Days was usually the steersman and navigator as well. Now, whether one is the leader of a nation, of a business, of a department,or of a home, one has to have the following: The ability to think deeply. The ability to communicate effectively. The ability to foresee the future and take necessary corrective action from time to time. The ability to make things happen. The image and character of any group are reflections of the image and character of its leader …. the man who makes all the difference.

DEVELOPING LEADERSHIP QUALITIES WITHIN YOU Leader is an Influencer. Who motivates, navigates and steers the organization to achieve excellence. He is not an outcome from the structure but from the manpower. I shall discuss with you 10 ways to gain influence over people you work with.

INFLUENCER I :INTEGRITY - Moral uprightness, Honesty, Wholeness, Morality and Purity. A survey carried out in America revealed 71% of leadership problem was integrity. Never ever betray trust of the follower. Practice VISION statement, which has direct influence on Integrity. Our VISION has four factors which are Integrity, Reliability, Pro-activity and Transparency.

N :NURTURE It is caring for people. Money makes the assets but people make money. Commitment to the people to whom you lead. Preferably a two way traffic - bondage of trust between leader and follower to be established. We cannot nurture people if we have Fear of people Dislike people Contempt people.

F : FAITH Faith and trust in people.

E :CHECK THE EMOTIONS. R :RESPONSIVE LISTENING. Leaders generally have the tendency to steal the EGO - FOOD, which ultimately detach the followers from him and allows him to coil - in.

U : UNDERSTANDING PEOPLE We should not fear from the people and we should shun selfishness. With this we will have a long lasting relationship. Followers wants GENIUNESS. NON POSSIVENESS (NON-EGOIST). ACCEPT PEOPLE AS THEY ARE. EMPATHY.

E : ENLARGES PEOPLE If one has to go from one level to another he has to enlarge KNOWLEDGE, ATTITUDE,SKILL and HABIT. (KASH). Level of the organization can be judged by the ENLARGEMENT of the workforce, not in $.

N : NAVIGATOR Navigator has to be obeyed. Guide step by step - PROACTIVE approach.

C: CONNECTING PEOPLE Connect heart to heart and not head to head. CONNECT : HEART - Passion and Emotion Intelligence(EQ). HURTS - Love and Support at the weakest time. HOPE - Loyalty is not a factor but taking their hope into consideration, we can assist them to achieve their dream. Leader should be like a Quarter Back in a Soccer team.

E: EMPOWER PEOPLE Organizational growth and potential of the people and grow them. Increase Responsibility, Accountability and Authority.

R: REPRODUCE Replica of a leader.

It is my earnest request that we all must do SWOT analysis and fit ourselves into a groove as that we can create our place of work joyful and help others to grow and develop.

12 CAUSES OF LEADERSHIP FAILURES Inability to organize details. Unwillingness to do what they would ask others to do. Expectations of reward for what they know rather than what they do (first deserve than desire). Fear of competition from others. Lack of creative thinking. The “ I” syndrome (claiming all achievements). Over - indulgence. Disloyalty. Emphasis on “Authority of Leadership”. Emphasis on title. Lack of understanding of the destructive effects of negative environment. Lack of common sense.

NEED FOR TRANSFORMATION What is the heart of transformation? It is the release of intrinsic motivation. How? By creating joy, pride, happiness in work, joy and pride in learning. The prime requisite for achievement of any aim, including quality, is joy at work. In our organization if we sincerely practice Integrity, Reliability, Pro-activity and Transparency we can transform ourselves.
