Philippians 1:12-26 Living life to the fullest. HE DIED FOR ME I’LL LIVE FOR HIM

Yes, and I will continue to rejoice, 19 for I know that through your prayers and the help given by the Spirit of Jesus Christ, what has happened to me will turn out for my deliverance. 20 I eagerly expect and hope that I will in no way be ashamed, but will have sufficient courage so that now as always Christ will be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death. 21 For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. 22 If I am to go on living in the body, this will mean fruitful labor for me. Yet what shall I choose? I do not know! 23 I am torn between the two: I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far; 24 but it is more necessary for you that I remain in the body. 25 Convinced of this, I know that I will remain, and I will continue with all of you for your progress and joy in the faith, 26 so that through my being with you again your joy in Christ Jesus will overflow on account of me. Philippians 1

The current scientific understanding of our legacy: Within 1000 years, there would be no significant trace left of man’s habitation on the earth. No books, no film, even our electronic/digital media would be totally given over to decay. Even those radio waves in space degrade to mere static within 2 years of leaving earth. Can we have meaning or purpose? Are joy or hope reasonable? There is only Nothing.

For Romans, the Empire was your purpose Caesar is Savior and Lord. Rome is the provider of peace. Death is supposed to be a deterring punishment! Joy is irrelevant. Submission to the power is all. 2 Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. (a treasonous statement)

HE DIED FOR ME I’LL LIVE FOR HIM Living for Christ is the only way to live life to the fullest. Arrogant? Truth is never arrogant. It is just the truth.

HE DIED FOR ME I’LL LIVE FOR HIM Living for Christ is the only way to live life to the fullest. Arrogant? Exclusivistic? Of course! By nature, truth eliminates all other ideas, calling them false.

HE DIED FOR ME I’LL LIVE FOR HIM Living for Christ is the only way to live life to the fullest. Arrogant? Exclusivistic? Against the flow? Truth usually is.

HE DIED FOR ME I’LL LIVE FOR HIM Living for Christ is the only way to live life to the fullest. It’s our only purpose to living life at all. How do we live this out?

Philippians 1 What matters? and to die is gain. 21 For to me, to live is Christ Is there a purpose, a design, a reason for all of this that carries us thru the best and the worst? Is there more than meets the eye and satisfies Rome?

Yes, and I will continue to rejoice, Philippians 1 God’s provision for Paul included stoneings, shipwrecks, beatings, false accusations and the like. He actually found that what we might see as adversities to be the means of advancing his proclamation of the gospel. He did not just rejoice in hindsight. He knows how the story ends. You party at harvest. Smells like money in the fall. The spellchecker said that this is right.

Yes, and I will continue to rejoice, 19 for I know that through your prayers and the help given by the Spirit of Jesus Christ, what has happened to me will turn out for my deliverance. Philippians 1 The term that Paul uses here does not refer to a casual request, but rather to an urgent appeal. Do our prayers legitimately effect outcomes? If the Philippians had not been praying, would Paul have been delivered? He seems to think not. I cannot help but wonder if the Philippians weren’t working on some legal means as well, making “petition.” Perhaps the messengers brought more than money.

Yes, and I will continue to rejoice, 19 for I know that through your prayers and the help given by the Spirit of Jesus Christ, what has happened to me will turn out for my deliverance. Philippians 1 There is a mystical element to our faith. (this is Troas and gift stuff) Sometimes out joy is unreasonable.

Philippians 1 The concept of purpose Why do you bother to take your next breath?

Buddhism ~ “purpose” means that something is desired. Desire nothing. Buddha got enlightened. He showed the world that material satisfaction is not we need to crave for. There are higher truths that need to be known. Higher truths that cannot be explained. Why? Is it because they are sacred? No. It is because there is no language that can explain it.

I Samuel 17:45-47 David said to the Philistine, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the LORD Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. This day the LORD will hand you over to me, and I’ll strike you down and cut off your head. Today I will give the carcasses of the Philistine army to the birds of the air and the beasts of the earth, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel. All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the LORD saves; for the battle is the LORD'S, and he will give all of you into our hands.”

Daniel 1:8 But Daniel resolved not to defile himself with the royal food and wine,

Psalm 84 For the director of music. According to gittith. Of the Sons of Korah. A psalm. How lovely is your dwelling place, O LORD Almighty! My soul yearns, even faints, for the courts of the LORD; my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God.

All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the LORD saves; for the battle is the LORD'S, and he will give all of you into our hands.”

Acts 20:24 However, I consider my life worth nothing to me, if only I may finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me —the task of testifying to the gospel of God’s grace.

Matthew 20:28 “... just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Luke 19:10 “ For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost.” John 10:7-10 Therefore Jesus said again, “I tell you the truth, I am the gate for the sheep. All who ever came before me were thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them. I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. He will come in and go out, and find pasture. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.

Philippians 1 In reality, what is my purpose? In reality, what is it becoming?

John 4:34 “My food,” said Jesus, “is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work.

Philippians 1 and to die is gain. 21 For to me, to live is Christ What matters? What matters most? We live at odds with the world. We live at odds with ourselves. What have we chosen? What have we chosen today? What have we chosen just now?
