Forgiveness: God's Gift For Us To Exchange " If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." 1 John 1:9 Pride or fear should never keep you from asking or forgiving others, even if they don't accept it from you. Forgiveness: God's Gift For Us To Exchange ❖ Relevance of the word "Forgiveness" ❖ Why is "Forgiveness" important? ❖ The Bible (NKJ - Red Letter Bible) ❖ Matthew 6:14-15 "For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you; But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. ❖ Ephesians 4:32 And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you. ❖ Luke 11:4 The Lord's Prayer, "And forgive us our sins, for we also forgive everyone who is indebted to us..."
Bible Commentary ❖ Matthew 6:14, 15 ❖ Jesus gives us warnings about for forgiveness. ❖ When we don't forgive others, we deny our common ground as sinners (Law Breakers) in need of God's forgiveness. ❖ Reference ❖ Ephesian 4:32 ❖ God does not forgive us because we forgive others, but solely because of His great mercy. ❖ As we come to understand His mercy and justice, we will want to be like Him. ❖ Having received "Forgiveness," we will pass it on to others. ❖ Christ was and is willing to forgive even those who crucified Him. (Luke 23:34) ❖ Reflection: It is easy to ask God to forgive us for sins, but difficult to grant it to others. ❖ Discussion - Asking ourselves: Have I forgiven the people who have wronged me? Matthew 6:14-15
