LAY LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT Three technical words, Lay - professional distinction Leadership – position & function Development - growth

LAY LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT Defining and framing lay leadership development; Lay leadership as a leadership category within the church with specific training curriculum certification and specific ministry office is a main line ministry paradigm Mainline ministry orientation is often with; »Professional leaders, »Academic qualifications and »Ordination systems

LAY LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT In the process of defining and framing lay leadership development the two common ways of dealing with the task are; Organic congregational ministry training with continuum Centralized Judicatory training with certification and licensing

LAY LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT Both approaches have their merits in ministry, however organic congregational ministry training (ocmt) with a continuum approach works in the actual life of a congregation to prepare the body of Christ and position it at the front line for mission.

Organic Congregational Ministry Training With Continuum Organic – natural birth and emergence of leaders out of a congregation Congregational ministry training – equipping and preparing of leaders done by congregations for ministry while engaged in ministry (not outsourcing) Continuum – preparing for ministry as a non- stop lifestyle and growth in Christian faith

BIBLICAL FOUNDATIONS Ephesians 4: 11It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, 12to prepare God's people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up 13until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.

BIBLICAL FOUNDATIONS 12 to prepare God's people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up    equipping, training, preparing, perfecting

Katartismon – preparing, equipping, training, perfecting It is a continuum of discipleship formation and journey!

Equipping – to make whole or to complete Katartisis (  s) Katartismon ( 

Prepare God's People God’s people or saints –  Saints or people of God are where we get the diakonos (  meaning servants, helpers, ministers, deacons, deaconesses, helpers, supporters, missionaries, care givers, contributors, providers in general Frontline Leaders.

Prepare God's People  saints or people of God The  gather to form community of saints which is the church. Wherever there are  (saints or people of God) there is a potential to raise and prepare leaders (   Saints + Organic equipping = lay leaders

Prepare God's People Every ministry office (five fold office) and resource in the church is made available to prepare God’s people for works of ministry which is to raise leaders from among people of God. (Eph. 4:11-12) Katartismon is an organic way of equipping, training and preparing people of God

Prepare God's People  The purpose of katartismon is to build the body of Christ. Building the body of Christ –   build, erect, build up, encourage, strengthen, edify, rebuild, restore) Katartismon – is a core duty and responsibility of pastors, teachers, evangelists, apostles and prophets

Building The Body Of Christ   build, erect, build up, encourage, strengthen, edify, rebuild, restore) The body of Christ built in two ways; Internal development – edifying the inner body External development – reaching out and expanding

Building The Body Of Christ  When saints (  are prepared they develop into wholeness (  or when they get equipped for ministry they become builders of the body The ultimate out come of properly and organically handled  LLD) is a body of Christ deeply rooted and richly edified for the sake of branching out, reaching lives and expanding on the daily basis.
