Research Facilities: The Kilgard lab was recently renovated and now occupies eight rooms totaling more than 2,000 square feet. There are two large Acoustic Systems double walled sound booths and fourteen smaller double walled sound booths for behavioral training and multi-channel awake recording. The lab has dedicated circuits and its own isolated transformer to minimize the noise during physiological recordings. For data acquisition, we have four complete Tucker-Davis sixteen-channel Neurophysiology Systems (including medusa real-time processors, RP2 real-time processors, programmable attenuators and) and two complete Tucker- Davis dual-channel Neurophysiology Systems (including RA16 digital amplifiers with optical interface, 50 MHz AP2 array processors, 500 kHz A/D and D/A, RP2 real-time processors, Programmable attenuators and anti-aliasing filters) Brainware, SigGen, and SigCal software are used to for data acquisition, stimulus generation, and sound calibration via an ACO 7016 microphone with amplifier (5Hz to 100kHz). For behavioral experiments we have eleven RP2 real-time processors to control sound delivery, lights, pellet and water dispensers, and monitor lever presses or nose pokes. For surgery, we have three Leica MZ6 stereomicroscopes with surgical stands and S-video out and two Kopf stereotaxic frames on vibration isolation tables. In addition, we have two FHC microdrives and three DC heating pads, and a Nonin Pulse Oximeter. To monitor visual and electrical stimulation we have ten multi-channel digital storage oscilloscopes and four AM Systems constant current sources with pulse train generators. We also have direct access to additional equipment in shared facilities, including autoclave, ethylene oxide sterilizer, ultrapure water, ice machine, microtome, and cryostat.
