PRESENT PERFECT CONTINUOUS We use the Present Perfect Continuous to show that something started in the past and has continued up until now. “I've been studying English for four years."
We can use it to refer to an action that has finished but you can still see evidence. Actions that have been recently completed – the results of the actions are evident. Oh, the kitchen is a mess. Who has been cooking?
It can refer to an action that has not finished. Actions that started in the past and continue up to the present. I've been waiting for her for 30 minutes and she still hasn't arrived.
It can refer to a series of actions. To say how many times someone has done something at an indefinite time in the past. She's been writing to her best friend regularly for a couple of years.
