FRENCH FRIES By: MaKayla Westgate, Charlie Barengo, Madison O’Connor, Meghan Dillon, and Alexis Pierson
History of French Fries The Belgium's first invented the French Fries. During World War I, the Belgium soldiers gave French soldiers French Fries as a peace offering. The French thought they were so good that they decided to take credit for them, and that is why they are called French Fries! VS
Names of French Fries The French calls them “Pommes Frites”. British called them Chips. Called “Fried Kots” or “Fritures” in Belgium. In America they are called French Fries. The Spanish called them “truffles”.
How are French Fries Made? Instructions Peel your potatoes and rinse them thoroughly. Cut the potatoes into 1/4 inch by 1/4 inch strips. Place the fries in a large bowl and cover them with 1 inch of water. Cover with ice and refrigerate for 30 minutes.water Pour 2 quarts of peanut oil into a pot and turn heat to medium-low. Allow the oil to heat to 325 degrees Fahrenheit. Measure the temperature with a candy or deep frying thermometer. Strain the ice water from the potatoes and lay them out on a kitchen towel. Pat the potatoes dry. Turn the oil to medium-high. Drop the potatoes into the oil carefully. Fry the potatoes for six to eight minutes, or until they start to turn light brown. Fry for less time if you prefer soft French fries.soft Remove the fries from the oil using a slotted spoon. Set the French fries on a dry paper towel to absorb the oilpaper towel Allow the French fries to cool for 10 minutes. Heat the oil to 350 degrees and add the French fries again. Fry for an additional minute. Remove the French fries and place them on a paper towel lined plate. Sprinkle with kosher salt and pepper and serve.
FUN FACTS Belgium started frying fish but went to potatoes instead. Estimated 80 percent of households in UK buy frozen fries each year. The French Say that the first fried potatoes appeared in Paris. French fries with the skin on are vitamin rich. Belgium’s consume the most French fries out of all the countries in Europe.
