CAR 2012 & CDM 2007 Regulation 5 Identification of Asbestos “An Employer Shall Not undertake work in demolition, maintenance or any other work… unless he has carried out a suitable & sufficient assessment or assumes that asbestos is present”
Regulation 6: Assessment of work which exposes employees to asbestos Employers must make sufficient assessment of risk to exposure of asbestos. Record the significant findings after risk assessments are made. Control measures. Risk assessments reviewed.
Regulation 7 Plans of Work An employer must not undertake any work with asbestos without preparing a written plan of work (POW), stating how that work is going to be. A copy of this POW should be kept by the employer at the premises where the work is being completed Demolition, the POW should state so far as reasonably practical all asbestos removed before major work starts So far as reasonably practical the POW should be followed and any amendments clarified in writing
Regulation 10 (ACOP) Training Requirements Asbestos Awareness Unlicensed (Notifiable & Non-Notifiable non licensed work) Licensed – Annual refresher (E-learning or face to face) Industry recognised training companies/person a member of UKATA (United Kingdom Asbestos Training Association) or IATP.
Notifiable Non licensed Complete form on HSE website (same day or ideally 24 hours before) Medicals required every three years Face fit tests Asbestos liability insurance Waste carriers licence (separate compartment) Personal air monitoring
