2  15-20” long with tail 9-13”  Weighs up to 4-12 lbs  Short, light under fur, longer darker guard hairs als/opossum

3  Born blind, deaf, and hairless  Litter size is 1-15 young (25 can be born at a time)  Often dies in mother pouch

4  In the wild they usually live for 2 years  Usually they are killed  In captivity they live for 5-6 years

5  The opossum lives in Eastern U.S. and Central New England to Florida, west to Wisconsin, Colorado and Texas  Forest to grassland

7  Wild: fruits, insects, small vertebrates, carrion, and garbage  Captivity: Dried dog food or cat food

8  Opossum have been around since dinosaurs  New born possums are as small as honeybees  The “o” in opossum was dropped (nobody knows why)
