Features of English Notes and Letters The body of the letter This is the main part of the letter. The first paragraph usually contains an introduction, with the main message of the letter in the following paragraphs. Good paragraph form is necessary throughout the body of the letter, that is, the first word of the paragraph must be indented about 1cm, with all other lines flush with the left margin. In typed letters a blank line is left between paragraphs, but this isn’t necessary in handwritten letters.
