3 What is Mutual Caring? Mutual caring is when: adults with learning disabilities and their elderly parents or family members look after each other in their home Bromley Mencap

4 What the Mutual Caring Project Provides… - Information and guidance - Reading letters and filling out forms - Independent living training - Help with budgeting money - Applying for welfare benefits - Doctor and hospital appointments - Planning for emergencies - Finding workmen like plumbers and painters - Meeting people and making new friends I support families to live together independently in their own homes by offering support: Bromley Mencap

5 The Mutual Carers Project works in partnership with key organisations including... Citizen’s Advice Bureau Jobcentre Plus Bromley Council Bromley MyTime Bexley and Bromley Advocacy Age Concern Bromley Citizens Advice And many others… Bromley Mencap

6 Mutual Caring provides Respite Respite – to give each carer a break Regular workshop lunches with speakers for older carers A peer support group for carers with learning disabilities It’s the only one in the country Carers with learning disabilities do a cookery course Bromley Mencap

7 Mutual Caring can be fun!  Outdoors Activity Club  Keep Fit  Leisure activities in thecommunity  Day trip to Brighton! Bromley Mencap

8 A Freedom Pass!!! Annette helped us: Money/Benefits Cooking Classes To Live together I gave up my job BUT joined new groups and helped train health staff at the PRU Mum became ill Andrew Roffey Being a Mutual Carer I Chair Bromley’s Mutual Carer’s Support Group and have made new friends Pat continues to support us Bromley Mencap
