Mishpatim משפטים משפטים “Judgments” Exodus 21:1-24:18
[Mat 22:35-40 ESV] 35 And one of them, a lawyer, asked him a question to test him. 36 "Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?" 37 And he said to him, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. 38 This is the great and first commandment. 39 And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. 40 On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets."

Why don’t we keep the law as Christians? 1.We follow a law of love now. 2.We are FREE from the Law. 53 = מאהבה ahavah- LOVE 53 = היובל hayovel- Jubilee or FREEDOM
[Gal 2:16 KJV] 16 Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Yeshua Messiah, even we have believed in Yeshua Messiah, that we might be justified by the faith of Messiah, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified. [Gal 3:11 KJV] 11 But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, [it is] evident: for, The just shall live by faith. [1Cr 15:56 KJV] 56 The sting of death [is] sin; and the strength of sin [is] the law. [Rom 7:7, 12 KJV] 7 What shall we say then? [Is] the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet Wherefore the law [is] holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good.
[Rom 10:1-4 KJV] 1 Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved. 2 For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge. 3 For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God. 4 For Messiah [is] the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth. τέλος telos termination, the limit at which a thing ceases to be (always of the end of some act or state, but not of the end of a period of time) the end- the last in any succession or series- that by which a thing is finished, its close, issue- the end to which all things relate, the aim, purpose
Laws about Slaves (Bond Servants)- Exd. 21:1-11 [Col 3:22-23 KJV] 22 Servants, obey in all things [your] masters according to the flesh; not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but in singleness of heart, fearing God: 23 And whatsoever ye do, do [it] heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; [Eph 6:5-9 KJV] 5 Servants, be obedient to them that are [your] masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ; 6 Not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart; 7 With good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men: 8 Knowing that whatsoever good thing any man doeth, the same shall he receive of the Lord, whether [he be] bond or free. 9 And, ye masters, do the same things unto them, forbearing threatening: knowing that your Master also is in heaven; neither is there respect of persons with him.
Laws about Slaves (Bond Servants)- Exd. 21:1-11 [1Pe 2:16-19 ESV] 16 Live as people who are free, not using your freedom as a cover-up for evil, but living as servants of God. 17 Honor everyone. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the emperor. 18 Servants, be subject to your masters with all respect, not only to the good and gentle but also to the unjust. 19 For this is a gracious thing, when, mindful of God, one endures sorrows while suffering unjustly. Bond Servants in the New Testament: 1.Shaul (Paul) called himself a bond servant- Titus 1:1 2.James calls himself a bond servant- James 1:1 3.Peter called himself a bond servant- 2Pet. 1:1
Laws about murder- Exd 21:12 [1Ti 1:8-11 ESV] 8 Now we know that the law is good, if one uses it lawfully, 9 understanding this, that the law is not laid down for the just but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for those who strike their fathers and mothers, for murderers, 10 the sexually immoral, men who practice homosexuality, enslavers, liars, perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to sound doctrine, 11 in accordance with the gospel of the glory of the blessed God with which I have been entrusted. [Rev 21:8 ESV] 8 But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death."
Laws about parents Exd. 21:15 Whoever strikes his father or his mother shall be put to death. [1Ti 1:8-11 ESV] 8 Now we know that the law is good, if one uses it lawfully, 9 understanding this, that the law is not laid down for the just but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for those who strike their fathers and mothers… Exd 21:17 Whoever curses his father or his mother shall be put to death. [Col 3:20-21 ESV] 20 Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord. 21 Fathers, do not provoke your children, lest they become discouraged.
Laws about parents [Eph 6:1-4 ESV] 1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 2 "Honor your father and mother" (this is the first commandment with a promise), 3 "that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land." 4 Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.
Hbr 13:1 KJV - Let brotherly love continue. Hbr 13:2 KJV – (Do not vex a stranger)Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares (malak). Hbr 13:3 KJV - Remember them that are in bonds (slaves/bond servants), as bound with them; [and] them which suffer adversity, as being yourselves also in the body. Hbr 13:4 KJV – (Israel was married in this portion)Marriage [is] honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge (if you lay with a virgin you are to marry her). Hbr 13:5 KJV – (You shall not bring a false report)[Let your] conversation [be] without covetousness; [and be] content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. Hbr 13:6 KJV - So that we may boldly say, The Lord [is] my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.
Hbr 13:7 KJV – (you shall not revile God or a ruler of your people)Remember them which have the rule over you, who have spoken unto you the word of God: whose faith follow, considering the end of [their] conversation.
Exd. 21:22-25 “When men strive together and hit a pregnant woman, so that her children come out, but there is no harm, the one who hit her shall surely be fined, as the woman's husband shall impose on him, and he shall pay as the judges determine. 23 But if there is harm, then you shall pay life for life, 24 eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, 25 burn for burn, wound for wound, stripe for stripe. [Jer 1:5 ESV] 5 "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you… [Psa 139:13 ESV] 13 For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother's womb.
