2 2 Growing In Christian Virtues Brotherly Kindness 1 John 4:7-21

3 3 “ Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. 8 The one who does not love does not know God, for God is love. 9 By this the love of God was manifested in us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world so that we might live through Him. … ”

4 4 1 John 4:7-21 “ … 10 In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. 11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. 12 No one has seen God at any time; if we love one another, God abides in us, and His love is perfected in us. 13 By this we know that we abide in Him and He in us, because He has given us of His Spirit. … ”

5 5 1 John 4:7-21 “ … 14 We have seen and testify that the Father has sent the Son to be the Savior of the world. 15 Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God. 16 We have come to know and have believed the love which God has for us. God is love, and the one who abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.… ”

6 6 1 John 4:7-21 “ … 17 By this, love is perfected with us, so that we may have confidence in the day of judgment; because as He is, so also are we in this world. 18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves punishment, and the one who fears is not perfected in love. 19 We love, because He first loved us.… ”

7 7 1 John 4:7-21 “ … 20 If someone says, "I love God," and hates his brother, he is a liar; for the one who does not love his brother whom he has seen, cannot love God whom he has not seen. 21 And this commandment we have from Him, that the one who loves God should love his brother also. ”

Now the Canaanite and the Perizzite were dwelling then in the land. … ”

32 32 Genesis 13:5-12 “ … 8 So Abram said to Lot, "Please let there be no strife between you and me, nor between my herdsmen and your herdsmen, for we are brothers. 9 "Is not the whole land before you? 33 33 Genesis 13:5-12 “ … 10 Lot lifted up his eyes and saw all the valley of the Jordan, that it was well watered everywhere—this was before the Lord destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah—like the garden of the Lord, like the land of Egypt as you go to Zoar. 11 So Lot chose for himself all the valley of the Jordan, and Lot journeyed eastward…. ”

40 40 Ruth 4:14-17 “ … 16 Then Naomi took the child and laid him in her lap, and became his nurse. 17 The neighbor women gave him a name, saying, "A son has been born to Naomi!" So they named him Obed. He is the father of Jesse, the father of David. ”

57 57 The Demand of Brotherly Kindness It is Necessary to answer Jesus' prayer for Unity! –The unity made possible through the cross of Christ is maintained as we endeavor to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace Eph. 4:3 " being diligent to preserve the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. 62 62 1 Thessalonians 4:9-10 " Now as to the love of the brethren, you have no need for anyone to write to you, for you yourselves are taught by God to love one another; 10 for indeed you do practice it toward all the brethren who are in all Macedonia. 72 72 Development of Brotherly Kindness Requires Praying for my Brethren. –We should pray fervently for our brethren, especially those with whom you may have a personality clash. " Therefore... pray for one another... " (James 5:16), and there will be brotherly kindness!

73 73 The Display of Brotherly Kindness As it affects our attitude toward brethren. –Will lead one to be considerate. A strong brother will be considerate of his weak brother Romans 15:1 " Now we who are strong ought to bear the weaknesses of those without strength and not just please ourselves. "

"

80 80 The Display of Brotherly Kindness As it affects our Service toward brethren. –Brotherly kindness will lead us to truly care for one another –1 Thessalonians 5:14 " We urge you, brethren, admonish the unruly, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with everyone. "

87 87 Brotherly Kindness in practice Spending time with each other. –Also spending time in social gatherings. Our fellow Christians SHOULD be our closest friends. We SHOULD desire to spend more time with one another.

88 88 Brotherly Kindness in practice Spending time with each other. –Also spending time in social gatherings. Having each other in to our homes, enjoying meals together, fun times together. This, when done properly can only increase our love and kindness to one another.

89 89 Conclusion We hopefully will appreciate the importance of developing a strong love for the brethren! –We may think that we have a strong love for the brethren, and this may be true... –But we need to always increase more and more – cf. 1 Thess. 4:9-10

90 90 1 Thessalonians 4:9-10 " Now as to the love of the brethren, you have no need for anyone to write to you, for you yourselves are taught by God to love one another; 10 for indeed you do practice it toward all the brethren who are in all Macedonia. But we urge you, brethren, to excel still more, "

91 91 Conclusion And so may this prayer be fulfilled in us: " and may the Lord cause you to increase and abound in love for one another, and for all people, just as we also do for you; 13 so that He may establish your hearts without blame in holiness before our God and Father at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all His saints. " 1 Thess. 3:12- 13
