3 Extractive Industry Products JAM provides a one-stop-shop product for extractive industry clients wanting to engage in grass roots community development activities, allowing the extractive client to deal with one highly proficient entity that manages all relationships with the community and ensures program success and sustainability Helping Africa help itself The CCDA model is a highly effective development methodology, that leverages a multiplicity of programming, using a single entry point and operational platform, maximizing program impact and donor return on investment while reducing administrative and management time for the client JAM does not only establish and operate the initial programs, it also provides a management service to handle all community liaison and communications, conducts intensive capacity building with local NGO’s and CBO’s to ensure handover of operations and sustainability. In addition, JAM also provides a CSI fund management service, to actively manage distribution of funds

Mine re-hab and agri- applications Natural gas extraction from mining estate ‘alien tree species’ bio-mass being utilised as power source for on-mine-site electricity generation with minimal harmful emissions JAM has established a joint venture with Ifula Holdings and its underlying companies, to offer highly cost effective and eco-friendly products to extractives, and agriculture, which compliment the developmental activities to effect a true triple bottom line

5 Helping Africa help itself The use of extractive based platforms and the JAM complete community development assistance model allows for a unique opportunity to use one mechanism within the community to achieve a multiplicity of programming, resulting in the true development of the community, sensitivity to community needs and customs and a positive outlook toward extractive industry, thus maximizing efficiency within programs and the return on investment JAM believes strongly in a multifaceted approach,utilizing consortia of NGO’s, national government and other donors to achieve maximum impact within the communities served, while providing the donor with the most efficient mechanism to achieve their individual objectives Education is one of the key foundation blocks to long- term development and ultimate sustainability Extractive Industry Conclusions Attention needs to be paid to the development of national human capital and local NGO’s/CBO’s to ensure ultimate long-term sustainability We need to focus on helping Africa help itself, transitioning from hand-out to Hand-Up!

6 Organizational Overview Joint Aid Management (JAM) is an African-founded humanitarian relief and development organization that has been working on sustainable development programs in Africa for the past 25 years, with a 2008 operational budget of $24 million Helping Africa help itself JAM’s goal is to “Help Africa help itself” through sustainable and targeted developmental programming - providing a ‘Hand-Up’ rather than a hand-out JAM’s programming is child-focused, with core activities in child nutrition, water and sanitation, agricultural development, economic development and HIV/AIDS programs JAM is uniquely positioned to address African development, with its headquarters in South Africa and focused exclusively on the African continent, while still operating in accordance with global standards, receiving international funding and registered as a U.S. 501©3 and as a registered charity in Germany, Switzerland, United Kingdom, Canada and Norway JAM takes a distinct approach to its programs, focusing strongly on sustainability, through a Complete Community Assistance approach and a strong emphasis on developing national human capital and building infrastructure JAM has a highly professional, multinational staff of more than 800 full time employees with many leading experts in their respective fields. JAM’s ‘first nationals’ employment policy actively contributes to national human capital development

7 Current Programming School Feeding - Reaching 497,000 children each school day with a meal and educational assistance in Angola, Mozambique, South Africa, Sudan and Zimbabwe. Funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, World Food Program, foundational, corporate and private donors from around the world Helping Africa help itself Child Nutrition - Including therapeutic feeding and OVC take-home rations Water and Sanitation - Providing in excess of 200 deep wells each year HIV/AIDS Education - Focusing on educating community representatives, teachers and primary school-aged children. Nutritional support, focusing on the provision of “food prescriptions” to people living with AIDS Agricultural Development - Including school gardening, backyard gardens, small-holder farmer development programs and large scale agribusiness development

8 Local Production JAM operates two food processing facilities in Mozambique and Angola, producing blended foods such as Corn Soy Blend (CSB). Our largest facility produces 500mt of fully fortified, pre-cooked CSB each month Helping Africa help itself JAM is in the process of adding a ‘Ready to Use Therapeutic Food’ (Plumpynut) plant to our Mozambique facility, and will be producing an RUTF for malnourished people and people living with HIV/AIDS JAM has the flexibility to use in-kind commodities from donors to process into fortified blended foods, allowing for reduced final product costs and increased programming capabilities JAM factories form an important part of the JAM sustainability plan for each country, by providing a national ability to produce vitally-needed fortified blended foods for nutritional programming. Ultimately, these factories will operate as nationally-owned entities supplying food into nationally-funded programs, and the commercial market. The factories provide a market for local commercial and small holder farmers, stimulating local agricultural development
