Steps for Success: Using ABC’s Books in Your Classroom Step 1: Administer the Diagnostic Test. Step 2: Score the Diagnostic Test. – Short answer questions must be hand graded.
Steps for Success: Using ABC’s Books in Your Classroom Step 3: Do an item analysis on the test results using the evaluation chart. – Base your program of study on the number of questions missed, which align with the chapters within the book. – If a student misses more than one question per chapter, the student should review this chapter.
Steps for Success: Using ABC’s Books in Your Classroom Step 4: Develop a schedule of lesson plans based on the diagnostic test results. – Include chapter assignments, quizzes, activities, and reviews for students to complete for your grading. – Base your schedule of lessons on the number of days before the actual test.
Steps for Success: Using ABC’s Books in Your Classroom Step 5: Pace the lessons. – Chunk the lessons into segments that will hold the students’ attention for the maximum time possible during the class sessions. – Remember, the key to better test scores is consistent and continuous use of our books over an extended period of time. – Warning: Extended use of ABC’s resources will result in improved GLE knowledge and greater testing confidence.

After scoring the test, use the Chart of Standards to run an item analysis. – Identify the standards and chapters that students still need to review. Review commonly missed questions in class.
Steps for Success: Using ABC’s Books in Your Classroom Step 7: Cover remaining chapters, exercises, quizzes, and reviews as needed. – Continue teaching the concepts and skills in the chapters to prepare for the Summative Assessment (Practice Test 2).

Steps for Success: Using ABC’s Books in Your Classroom Step 9: Students take the real iLEAP, LEAP, or EOC test. – Suggest general test-taking tips prior to the actual exam. Some of these are located at the front of each book. – Give students words of encouragement both before and after the exam. – Students are now ready for SUCCESS!

Validation Studies Webster Parish – J.A. Phillips Middle School (Title 1) used our 6 th Grade SS last year for their test preparation. 42 advanced scorers represented 20% of the student body. Mr. Busby, secondary supervisor for Webster Parish schools, was impressed with the improvement. Typically, a school gets an average of 10 12% being advanced scorers on the iLEAP 6 th SS exam. Using ABC materials for 4 th and 8 th Grade LEAP ELA and Math for summer school remediation.
