3 Types of community planning Planning documents: Village Design Statement Neighbourhood Plan Non-planning documents: Market Town Health Check Community Action Project Parish Plan

4 Village Design Statement What it is: Owned, led and managed by the community An opportunity for everyone to have their say Based on evidence Planning policy guidelines on the look and feel of future development In conformity with TVBC Local Plan Adopted by TVBC as Supplementary Planning Document (SPD)

5 Village Design Statement 25 VDS completed Includes Romsey Town Design Statement Also two joint VDS – The Pentons and The Wallops More underway

6 Neighbourhood Plan What it is: Undertaken by town and parish councils or 'neighbourhood forums' Heavily regulated Subject to independent examination and public referendum Adopted by TVBC and forms part of Local Plan Must conform with TVBC Local Plan and National Planning Policy Framework

7 Community Action Project What it is: Owned, led and managed by the community Focus on a specific geographic area, age group or issue of concern Based on evidence Likely to result in a “quick win” Documented as a case study or report

8 Parish Plan (AKA Village Plan, Community Plan, Market Town Health Check) What it is: Owned, led and managed by the community An opportunity for everyone to get involved and have their say Based on evidence Priorities for next years A plan of actions and projects Endorsed by the LSP / TVBC

9 Parish Plan (AKA Village Plan, Community Plan, Market Town Health Check) What it is NOT: Done to a community by others A planning document Heavily regulated A one-off event A wish list without foundation A ‘members only’ club Something to stop change taking place

10 Parish Plan (AKA Village Plan, Community Plan, Market Town Health Check) The benefits: A way for the community to take the initiative Clear evidence of needs and priorities Foster community activity and spirit Lever in funding Influence others 3 types of actions Reflects the unique nature of the community

11 Parish Plan (AKA Village Plan, Community Plan, Market Town Health Check) The process: 1. Involves forming a steering group 2. Comprehensive consultation process 3. Questionnaire to all residents 4. Collate results 5. Prioritise the actions 6. Set up action groups 7. Document the process and outcomes – Production of the PARISH PLAN
