MINERALS Calcium- Calcium- builds strong bones and teeth- strengthens body cells – aids in blood clotting – regulates muscles (heart) maintains normal nerve function Phosphorus- Phosphorus- strengthens body cells – combines with calcium to make bones and teeth – helps in the oxidation of foods.
VITAMINS Vitamin A- Vitamin A- important for vision, growth, healthy mucous membrane Vitamin B2- Vitamin B2- (Riboflavin)- important for growth and for health of the skin, eyes, tongue, nerve tissues and digestive tract. Thiamine/Niacin- Thiamine/Niacin- maintain normal appetite, healthy digestive system – proper nerve function Vitamin D- Vitamin D- helps body to use calcium and phosphorus to build strong bones & teeth
Carbohydrates Lactose – (milk sugar) provides energy Osteoporosis – condition in which bone mass decreases with age – may result from lack of calcium in the diet. Rickets – a disease of defective bone formation – may result from lack of vitamin D in the diet
Lactose intolerant- Lactose intolerant- body can’t break down lactose into simple sugars Nutrients low in milk- Iron – Vitamin C - Niacin
