3 GENIAL *A genial person is warm and friendly. A new student arrives to your classroom. In what ways can you be genial towards him or her? Turn and talk to your partner.

4 P ROGNOSTICATION *A prognostication is a forecast or prediction. James Spann is making a prognostication about tomorrow’s weather. Does he think it will snow (thumbs up), or does he think it will rain (thumbs down)?

5 STRICKEN *If you are stricken, you are suddenly and badly affected by something such as illness or fear. Tommy the Turtle is stricken with fear. Turn and talk about what could have scared him so badly.

6 DRAMATICALLY *If something is done dramatically, it is done in a striking or impressive way. If Donkey is acting dramatically is he calm (thumbs up) or is he overreacting and very excited (thumbs down)?

7 RESTRAIN If you restrain something, you hold it back or limit it. Oprah is restraining from a certain emotion. What is she holding back or trying not to do. Turn and talk to your partner.

8 P ROTEST No more beets for dinner! *A protest is a way of demonstrating that you are against something. Bobby’s mom cooks beets every night for dinner. If he dislikes them so much, how can he protest this respectfully? Turn and talk to your partner. Now, pantomime protesting peacefully.

9 FEVERISHLY *If you are working feverishly, you are working quickly and excitedly. Why might Milo be swimming feverishly to shore? Turn and talk to your partner about this. Stand up and pantomime in place what swimming feverishly would look like?

10 OVERCOME *When you are overcome by something, you are overpowered by it. Johnny is trembling behind the curtain because he is overcome with stage fright. What can he do to get over this fear? Turn and talk to your partner.

11 FLOP A flop is a failure. Reginald’s experiment exploded in the science lab. Would you say that Reginald’s experiment is a flop (thumbs up) or a success (thumbs down)?

12 SPECTACULAR *Something that is spectacular is very impressive and draws a lot of attention. Fireworks are spectacular! What is the most spectacular sight you have ever seen? Turn and talk to your partner.
