2 College Park Church of God | Sunday PM | Young Adults 2 Luke 22:39-44 “And He came out and proceeded as was His custom to the Mount of Olives; and the disciples also followed Him. When He arrived at the place, He said to them, "Pray that you may not enter into temptation.“ And He withdrew from them about a stone's throw, and He knelt down and began to pray, saying, "Father, if You are willing, remove this cup from Me; yet not My will, but Yours be done.“ Now an angel from heaven appeared to Him, strengthening Him. And being in agony He was praying very fervently; and His sweat became like drops of blood, falling down upon the ground. “ Luke 22:39-44 “And He came out and proceeded as was His custom to the Mount of Olives; and the disciples also followed Him. And coming in, he said to her, "Greetings, favored one! The Lord is with you.“ But she was very perplexed at this statement, and kept pondering what kind of salutation this was. The angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary; for you have found favor with God. "And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name Him Jesus. "He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David; and He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and His kingdom will have no end.“ Mary said to the angel, "How can this be, since I am a virgin?“ The angel answered and said to her, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; and for that reason the holy Child shall be called the Son of God. "And behold, even your relative Elizabeth has also conceived a son in her old age; and she who was called barren is now in her sixth month. "For nothing will be impossible with God.“ And Mary said, "Behold, the bondslave of the Lord; may it be done to me according to your word." And the angel departed from her. 4 College Park Church of God | Sunday PM | Young Adults 4 Judging Rightly Single Sin Focusing – Regarding only the action/behavior of focus (John 8:4) –I realize that this action is only one aspect of this person as a whole being Conclusion Jumping – I only what I know about a person (Mark 2:15-17) –I am trying to only speak of those things that I know for a fact about that person Non-Biblical Standards – Being careful when asserting my perception of God’s will –I realize that people work out their salvation differently, and I better be sure of scripture before I speak Outward Action/Intent Policing – Only God can judge intent (Hebrews 4:12) –I realize that some people who outwardly look good are inwardly sinful and vice-versa Forgetting God’s Grace – I’m no more worthy of grace than others (Matthew 5:20) –I realize that everyone sins and that God’s love isn’t based on how upright a person is Neglecting the Person’s Situation – I’m no better/worse than others (Luke 7:39) –I realize that, put in the same situation, I might do the same as him and ‘but for the grace of God, there go I’ Being Hypocritical – My obedience is my only foundation (Matthew 7:3) –I need to take the log out of my eye to be able see the speck in my brother’s eye Judging Wrongly Single Sin Focusing – Christ suggests the leaders consider their own sin before they stone the adulterous women. (John 8:4) Conclusion Jumping – The Pharisees assume that Christ is doing tawdry things when he spends time with the tax collectors and sinners. (Mark 2:15-17) Non-Biblical Standards – –Bias: James 2:1-4 –Inaccurate Doctrine: Matthew 12:1-8 –Imbalanced Punishment: Ephesians 6:4 Outward Action/Intent Policing – Christ tells the Pharisees to worry about the inside of the cup and then the outside will be clean as well. (Luke 11:39 – 41, Hebrews 4:12) Forgetting God’s Grace – Christ says “Unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 5:20) Neglecting the Person’s Situation – The Pharisee thinks that the prostitute is not worthy to pour perfume on Christ’s feet. (Luke 7:39) Being Hypocritical – Christ asks why we look for the speck in another’s eye before noticing the log in our own (Matthew 7:3) Judging

But the boat was already a long distance from the land, battered by the waves; for the wind was contrary. And in the fourth watch of the night He came to them, walking on the sea. When the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were terrified, and said, "It is a ghost!" And they cried out in fear. But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, "Take courage, it is I; do not be afraid.“ Peter said to Him, "Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.“ And He said, "Come!" And Peter got out of the boat, and walked on the water and came toward Jesus. But seeing the wind, he became frightened, and beginning to sink, he cried out, "Lord, save me!“ Immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and took hold of him, and said to him, "You of little faith, why did you doubt?“ When they got into the boat, the wind stopped. And those who were in the boat worshiped Him, saying, "You are certainly God's Son!"
