3. DiDA – Image manipulation Healing brush Healing brush will copy part of the image over another by blending them. You must select a source (by [CTRL] and left mouse) and then GIMP will do the rest!

4. DiDA – Image manipulation Airbrush Some areas may be highly damaged (like a large spot or a scar). This means that the healing brush can not blend it out. In these cases you can use the airbrush to get rid of the blemish and then use the healing brush to heal it.

5. DiDA – Image manipulation Blur tool Blurring can help make skin look more healthy and can smooth out wrinkles. It can also smooth out and uneven areas after you have airbrushed them.

6. DiDA – Image manipulation Tips ! When using these tools ALWAYS do it in small parts! Try and use a healing source close to the destination. This will aid continuity. Overly airbrushed images will look un-natural. Do not be afraid to undo if you have airbrushed too much.

7. DiDA – Image manipulation Steps to follow Step 1 – Use the airbrush on large blemishes Step 2 – Heal the airbrushed area. Step 3 – Repeat step 1 and 2! Step 4 – Once done, blur the area.

9. DiDA – Image manipulation Soft glow This is a very simple way of making an image stand out! It uses some of the skills already learned but applies them in a un-expected way. It is a common trick used by professionals to soften the skin as well as improving the contrast of the foreground image.

11. DiDA – Image manipulation How to soft glow Step 1 – Duplicate the layer so you have the same image on two seperate layers. Step 2 – Make the top layer blend mode “soft light”. You should notice an immediate difference! Step 3 – Do a gaussian blur (of size 8) on the top layer.

13. DiDA – Image manipulation Adding tints Tints can be added by – Drawing over with a brush in “overlay” mode – Making a selection and changing the colour using colour balance Make sure you are careful about which areas you tint as you can easily damage the image by tinting too much!
