Chapter-12 Animal Behaviour
Innate behaviour and Theory of Pavlov”s
After completing this lesson students should be able to… tell the definition of innate behaviour explain the social behaviour of bees explain the innate behaviour of spider.
Justification of innate behaviour 1. Winter migration of birds: Periodic passing of animals one place to another. Birds have mysterious ability to navigate. The migratory birds are- lesser whistling teal, chhota sarali, goose, balihansh, darters, gurgani etc. 310 birds are migratory. Jahangirnagar university lake is the famous for migratory birds.
Spider webs The phylum of spider is arthropoda. Spiders have silk glands. There is a spinneret at the tip of the abdomen. They can form different types of webs. The webbing behaviour are inherited by the spiders since 360 million years.
Learning behaviour Learning can be define as a persistent change in behaviour that occures as a result of experience.
Theory of Pavlov’s: Reflex and saliva of dogs The Russian scientist introduced this theory. Pavlov rang a bell when he fed dog. Once he only rang the bell but did not fed the dog. This time on hearing the bell saliva is secreted from the mouth of dog.

Group-A Group-B Write down the behaviour of bee Write down the innate behaviour of spider.
Professor Rakib was watching a circus programme on his T.V. In this circus an elephant was playing with a football in certain way. Having seen this he thought that animals have some special behaviours. He observe that, saliva is secreted from the mouth of his pet dog. Then he said to his wife,” the secretion of saliva from the mouth of a dog indicates a famous and special theory of zoology” a.What is learning ? b.What is meant by reflex action? c.Describe the special behaviour of animals. d.Analyze the last statement of professor Rakib.
