Thank you to the Shale Gas Innovation Center, Bill Hall & John Siggins, and the judges for giving us the opportunity to present our novel technology. Our company is Atlantis Technologies Click Our innovation is a Low Cost desalination system called Radial Deionization, or RDI My name is Patrick Curran, CEO of Atlantis. Our mission is to enable responsible energy independence by developing innovative water treatment systems.

2 Problem Oil & Gas Industries are Enormous Salty Waste Water Generators
Marcellus Shale Gas 80 billion gal/yr 1 trillion gal/yr in US So what’s the problem. As many of you know, the oil and gas industries generate an enormous amount of salty waste water. Click In the US alone, Click over 1 trillion gallons is generated each year in the oil and gas sector. That is equal to all of the water consumed by New york, LA, and Chicago put together. Right here in our backyard, Click water generated by Marcellus shale gas harvesting will generate Click 80B/yr in 10 years. That’s more than 1 million tanker trucks deliveries each year. Disposing of this water is very expensive. In the Eagle Ford field in Texas, its $2.50/bb for hauling and deep welling. Up here in the Marcellus & Utica, it can be $10 or more to haul to salt water disposal wells in Ohio. There have to be a better way than this. Disposal Expensive: $ > $10.00/bbl 2

3 Solution: RDI Desalination
$5.4 million Defense Department Investment Super capacitor, removes any salt 8 Issued & pending patents since 2009. Scalable to > 1,000 gpm Modular design We have a solution for this enormous problem. Click RDI desalination system from Atlantis Technologies. Over 5.4MM was invested into the technology development by the defense department, which I was one of the original engineers. We re-designed the entire system to increase TDS range by factor of 20, scale volume to municipal level, and reduce price by 75%. The technology is based on the use of a super capacitor to remove salt from solution. We have 8 issued and pending patents on this next generation system design, operation, and applications. Scalable to municipal scale. Systems can be build in modules like the 100 gpm system shown below Larger systems with hundreds of cylinders. Or, smaller system such as these. This is a small production unit mounted on a trailer for use in oil field demonstrations. This is a small production united being used to clean FGD scrubber blowdown at a coal fired power plant. This is a test system for developing a process to desalinate the Salton Sea in the California desert.

4 Value Proposition 40% - 70% lower cost of ownership
Modular: Plug and Play into plant High Salinity: Up to 250,000 ppm Removes sulfates, hardness, metals Up to 95% clean water recovered Wide range of pH, AMD water So what are we brining to the table for our customer: Lower cost of ownership. RDI is 40 – 70% less than state of the art technologies including RO, ED, brine concentrator, and crystallizers. Cost of ownership includes capital depreciation, maintenance, energy, chemicals. Because the system is modular, it can fit easily into existing plants and mobile systems. Our technology can clean water with tds up to 250,000 ppm. We would be glad to share test results for cleaning numerous Marcellus produced water samples that started at 264,000 ppm and 51,000 ppm hardness. We can remove problematic species without fouling such as: Anions: sulfates, nitrates, phosphates, carbonates, chlorides, hydroxyls. Cations: Na, Ca, Mg, Ba, Sr, Pb, As, Sb, Hg, Se, U, Boron, That same Marcellus water had 51,000 ppm hardness. Recovery of clean can be as high as 95%, greatly reducing the volume of water for disposal. Can handle nasty water including low pH acid mine drainage, caustic solutions, waste acid, etc.

This is a graph of the cost to process a barrel of salty water comparing the 3 available technologies in this salinity range (capacitive deionization, BWRO, and ED). It’s a little hard to see, but The main categories are energy, depreciation of capital, and maintenance and hardness/silica removal. The energy usage is similar or less then the competition, but the capital cost and maintenance are much less and we can handle hardness removal. When you add up all components, the RDI cost of ownership is more than 50% less than state of the art options. 5

We use the same cost categories as the last graph: energy, capex, maintenance, hardness, and brine disposal. The energy usage and capex are similar than the competition, but the maintenance, hardness, and brine disposal are much less. When you add up all components, the RDI cost of ownership is 50% less. 6

This is a graph of the cost per barrel of to desalinate 250,000 ppm comparing the 2 available technologies in this salinity range, Atlantis RDI and brine concentrator. We use the cost categories capex and opex (maintenance & power). The capex is less and the opex is much less. When you add up all components, the RDI cost of ownership is more thanb 50% less. These results are based on real world samples provided to us and run for weeks in our engineering lab for customers such as Kroff Chemical, MI-Swaco/Schlumberger, GWTT, and a large sample just sent by EOG Resources. 7

8 What is Radial Deionization?

It is an advanced form of desalination which uses a super capacitor to remove salt from water. Salty water enters the supercapacitor. As it passes through the salts are removed from the water, similar to ED except the cations and anions are held by the supercapacitor. Clean water exits the super cap. Click The salts are removed during a reject cycle and form a very concentrated brine, up to 10 x’s the original concentration. Clean Water Salty Water (-) Super Capacitor 8

9 Applications Shale Gas Oil/Oil Sands Power Generation
Because of the RDI’s ability to process high TDS and remove hardness at a lower cost, there are some very interesting applications. Fracture and produced water from shale gas. Produced water from oil production and oil sands SAG-D. Flue gas desulfurization and cooling tower blowdown. Acid mine drainage, mine waste water, and other industrial waste waters. 10 Partner Traction We have attracted many interested companies and have various levels of involement including sample processing and field units. As I mentioned, we’ve pilot tested many Marcellus Shale Gas fracture and produced water samples and now we are looking for a partner to support placement of a field unit to validate performance. Our team is ready to support with our sales office in Richboro, tech support in XXX, and system integration and testing in Lancaster. 10
